Witness For Jesus

Today, we’re going to talk about what it means to be a witness for Jesus. The call to witness isn’t just for pastors or missionaries—it’s for every believer. Each one of us has the opportunity to share God’s love and truth with others in our unique way. We’ll discuss what it means to live as a witness for Christ, focusing on our call to share the Gospel through our words, actions, and daily lives.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Jesus empowers us through His Spirit to be witnesses wherever we are. So today, let’s explore how we can live out this calling in our daily lives.

One of the most powerful ways we can witness is through our actions. Living out our faith speaks louder than words. When others see kindness, patience, and grace in us, it opens the door for them to see Christ. Matthew 5:16 tells us, “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

Think about it: how we treat others, respond to challenges, and live with integrity can draw people toward God. I’ve always tried to live by the Golden Rule in Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would like them to do to you.” Essentially, treat others as you’d want to be treated. I don’t always do it perfectly, but I try.

We don’t have to be perfect, but we do need to be sincere. Showing His love and truth in the way we live is a great way to walk out being a witness for Jesus.

Today, find one way to let your actions reflect God’s love. It could be as simple as being patient, offering a helping hand, or speaking kindly.

Commit to being Jesus’ witnesses, not in our own strength but with His Spirit empowering us. You never know who might need the hope that only Jesus can provide. Be a light in someone’s life today!

Another impactful way to witness is by sharing our personal stories. Telling others how God has worked in our lives brings faith to life and shows that He is real and active. In 1 Peter 3:15, we’re encouraged, “If someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”

Your testimony doesn’t have to be dramatic—my testimony isn’t, and I used to think it needed to be or it wouldn’t make a difference. So, I didn’t share it much. But I’ve learned that everyone’s testimony is unique and valuable. Our testimonies are simply about being honest and open about what God has done and continues to do in our lives. Sharing how God has brought you through struggles, given you peace, or changed your heart can encourage others and give them hope.

So, witness through your actions, share your story, or simply pray for others—God can use you to make a difference.

Being a witness isn’t something we’re called to do in our own strength. We have the Holy Spirit as our guide and helper. Acts 4:31 says, “After this prayer, the meeting place shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Then they preached the word of God with boldness.” The early believers relied on the Spirit’s power, and so should we.

When we rely on the Holy Spirit, He gives us wisdom, courage, and even the words to say. He’s the one who prepares hearts and opens doors, so we don’t have to stress about getting it perfect. We can simply be willing vessels.

There’s a worship song I love that talks about being a vessel. It reminds me that I am nothing without God, and because of that, I want to empty myself of who I think I am and be filled with who He says I am so I can be used for His glory. I’m also reminded of an amazing story in 2 Kings: a widow was in debt, and all she had was a little oil. The prophet Elisha told her to gather empty jars, and God filled them with enough oil to pay off all her debt.

What a witness of faith and a miracle of God.

Stories like this are powerful testaments of what the Lord can do, and we are called to share our own stories to show who God is.

Remember, witnessing for Jesus is about being open, authentic, and loving. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus says, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” This Great Commission is our calling as believers—to share God’s love and truth wherever we go.

Let’s go out into the world as witnesses for Jesus, showing His love and sharing His truth.
