Today, we’re talking about Wisdom. In a world where we’re constantly making decisions, big and small having the right kind of wisdom can guide us to make the best choices for our lives and others around us.
Now, when you think of wisdom, what comes to mind? Some might think of knowledge, experience, or maybe even a person they consider wise. The Bible talks about wisdom in a very specific way. It’s not just about knowing things; it’s about knowing how to apply that knowledge in a way that honors God and benefits others.
Proverbs 16:16 says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!” The value of wisdom is incomparable, but it’s also something we have to continually pursue. God wants to give us wisdom. It’s not something we have to earn or prove ourselves worthy of—He freely gives it when we ask.
The Bible teaches that true wisdom begins with a reverence for God—understanding who He is and aligning our lives with His will.
Proverbs 9:10 tells us, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.”
In today’s world, wisdom can sometimes be confused with intelligence or success. But Biblical wisdom is much deeper than that. It’s about living in a way that reflects God’s truth, making decisions that align with His character, and discerning what’s right even when it’s not easy or popular.
It is discernment what we acknowledge that we need pause and take a moment to seek the Lord and His wisdom. We have decided to stand on the truth the Lord gives us.
When we live out Biblical wisdom, we’re not just thinking about what benefits us in the short term—we’re looking at the bigger picture, making choices that honor God and bless others.
One question is, How do we get wisdom? Thankfully, the Bible makes it simple. James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” God wants us to ask for wisdom! He is generous, and He promises to provide the guidance we need when we come to Him.
Prayer is one of the primary ways we seek wisdom. When we ask God for wisdom in prayer, we’re opening ourselves up to His guidance. Proverbs 2:6 says, “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” That’s why it’s so important to spend time in His Word and in prayer—because that’s where wisdom flows from.
Asking for wisdom isn’t just about praying in the moment of a big decision. It’s about cultivating a heart that is open to God’s direction every day. As we spend time in prayer, read Scripture, and seek His will, we’ll find that wisdom becomes a natural part of how we live and think.
Wisdom is so important for us to seek. Proverbs 3:13-14 says, “Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold.” The Bible places a high value on wisdom, even higher than material wealth. Why? Because wisdom helps us live rightly, make good decisions, and navigate life’s challenges with grace.
When we walk in wisdom, we experience peace, clarity, and stability. We’re not easily swayed by every opinion or circumstance because we have a deeper understanding of what matters most. Wisdom helps us avoid unnecessary problems and leads us toward what’s truly good for us.
Proverbs 4:7 puts it this way: 'Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.' When we have wisdom, we have the ability to discern between right and wrong, truth and lies, and what will lead us closer to God versus what will lead us away from Him.
Walking in wisdom means making daily decisions that align with God’s will. It’s about checking in with God regularly, not just when we’re in a crisis. Wisdom is built over time—through consistent prayer, studying Scripture, and seeking counsel from others who are grounded in faith.
When we acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers and depend on God for guidance, we open ourselves up to His wisdom. A heart that’s teachable is a heart that grows in wisdom.
Ask God for wisdom—not just for the big decisions, but for every area of your life and let Him guide you.
