Who are you depending on?

Who or what are you depending on?

We all have certain things and people we know we could depend on if we needed them.

God is the one we can depend on all the time and at any time.

Psalm 104:27-30 says, “They all depend on you to give them food as they need it. When you supply it, they gather it. You open your hand to feed them, and they are richly satisfied. But if you turn away from them, they panic. When you take away their breath, they die and turn again to dust. When you give them your breath, life is created, and you renew the face of the earth.”

Let’s talk about how we can place our dependence on God and know that He will provide.

Thinking about today's topic, the word "depend" came to mind. We can be in different seasons of life, and we might have some people we can depend on to help us when we need it. There are those we can call on and know they will be there. But what about when you don’t feel like you can reach out to anyone? During times of loneliness, there is one who is always with us and willing to help if it is His will. That is God.

I’ve had many times when I knew I could lean on friends and family, and then there were times I knew I needed to go it alone because it was the right time to do so. I am thankful for those who I can reach out to. But in times of loneliness, depending on God has been the most fulfilling thing I could do.

We read this scripture over and over and hear it many times, but when you are walking through something and you know you must lean into the Lord, this scripture can provide the comfort you are seeking. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

I thought about the Israelites when considering dependence on the Lord.

They walked in the wilderness for 40 years and complained about it so much, yet every time the Lord supplied their needs. They depended on Him even when they were ungrateful for what He gave.

In Exodus 16:4-8 it says, “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.’ So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, ‘By evening you will realize it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt. In the morning you will see the glory of the Lord because he has heard your complaints, which are against him, not against us. What have we done that you should complain about us?’ Then Moses added, ‘The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.’”

God provides for all our needs, so all we need to do is depend on Him.

Exodus 16:16-18 says, “These are the Lord’s instructions: Each household should gather as much as it needs. Pick up two quarts for each person in your tent.’ So the people of Israel did as they were told. Some gathered a lot, some only a little. But when they measured it out, everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed.”

When you feel like you don’t know what to do, remember the Lord. Know that He is there with you. Know that you can call out to Him and He will provide what you need.

Depending on God in this life will take the burden off of you and place it in His hands. He is willing to help you and carry what you are carrying.
