When Walls Fall

We’re going to talk about when the walls fall—those big, intimidating walls that stand in our way in life. Think Jericho-style. We’ve all faced moments where something looms over us—fear, doubt, stress, uncertainty—and we wonder, how in the world will this ever fall? But God has a history of making the impossible possible.

Joshua 6:20 (NLT) — “When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.”

We all have walls. Maybe it’s fear, insecurity, a broken relationship, or a mountain of bills. It looks different for everyone. But recognizing our Jericho is the first step toward watching it fall.

Once we figure out what our wall is, the next step is to pray and ask God to help us take it down—just as He did the walls of Jericho.

When we ask, we will receive—just like the Bible says.

God told the Israelites to march, blow trumpets, and shout. That was the battle plan. Can you imagine explaining that to your family? "Don’t worry, y’all—just walk and toot your horn!"

When I think about this, I think about how my kids would react if I told them something like that. Or if my parents had told me this growing up, I’m sure I’d be like, “This is dumb,” and then give my own opinion or try to find another way.

But that’s not what happened. Everyone there just said “Okay” and did what they were told—even though it sounded crazy.

Here’s the thing: by this point, the Israelites had seen God do so many unbelievable things that they just obeyed. And sometimes, God’s way won’t make sense—but obedience unlocks miracles.

Now back to the Israelites walking around Jericho. I think it’s amazing that they all walked silently for six days. Complete silence from that many people is a miracle in itself… we all know how hard it can be to get silence for just an hour!

But they were just waiting on God’s word.

And sometimes, we’re in that same season—doing what God said to do, but not seeing the wall move yet. That doesn’t mean nothing’s happening. It just means we have to keep trusting and wait for the right time.

Obedience over time is never wasted—even when it’s quiet.

There will be a moment when God says, “Now’s the time.” And when He does, walls crumble. We just have to be faithful enough to stick with Him through the march.

What’s your “march” right now? Are you trusting Him, even when nothing's budging?

Our scripture for today:

Joshua 6:20 (NLT) — “When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.”

Now that we’ve talked about the walls we face, let’s talk about how we respond—because trust me, how we walk matters.

When we’re faced with walls and long waiting, we probably want to scream, “I just wanna be done!” But often, we have to keep enduring until the right time comes—and then, everything will fall into place.

Can you imagine someone on day three saying, “This is dumb. I’m out.” Let’s be honest—we do that. We want immediate results, and when we don’t see them, we doubt.

It’s like watching a pot of water boil. You keep checking it thinking, Okay, any time now, but it always takes longer than we think.

We are impatient people, and we can really mess things up if we try to rush God’s timing. Sure, our issues might seem to pass for now, but something else will eventually come up—because we didn’t put in the work and wait on God's full solution.

If the Israelites had stormed Jericho instead of doing what God said, the miracle wouldn’t have happened—and most likely, they wouldn’t have taken the city at all.

We need to wait on the Lord and be patient.

God’s timing is perfect. Always. Even when it feels slow, weird, or too quiet. Our job is to keep walking, trusting that He knows exactly what He’s doing.

Also, there’s something powerful about community—walking with others who are believing for walls to fall too. The Israelites marched together. No one broke formation.

That tells us delays are not denials—sometimes they’re divine prep time.

And don't forget, community and praise are powerful—they shift our focus from the wall to the One who can knock it down.

So trust God's timing, let others help you, and praise Him through it all.

Our scripture again:

Joshua 6:20 (NLT) — “When the people heard the sound of the rams’ horns, they shouted as loud as they could. Suddenly, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites charged straight into the town and captured it.”

Let’s talk about what happens after the wall falls. Because believe it or not, the story doesn’t end when the bricks hit the ground.

It’s easy to celebrate the win and move on because it’s something we’ve been praying and waiting for. But we can never forget that it was God who brought the walls down.

Nothing we did on our own could have gotten us through. So, let’s be sure to praise the Lord, and walk forward with gratitude.

Gratitude keeps us grounded and ready for what’s next.

Once you’ve seen walls fall, you become a voice of hope for others. You can say, “I’ve been there—and God was faithful.” Sharing our stories connects us with others and encourages them.

Who can you encourage today?

Also, when we share, we’re reminding others (and ourselves!) that faith says, “Even before I see it, I believe it.”

We pray, and we walk with confidence—knowing that God is going to move. That strengthens our faith.

So how would it change your day if you lived like the wall was already coming down?

Keep in mind—you don’t have to understand the strategy. You just need to rely on and follow the One who brings the victory.

God is still in the business of toppling walls. Whatever you're facing today, know this:

He sees it.

He's got a plan.

And He'll bring it down in His perfect timing.

So, keep marching. Keep trusting. Keep praising.
