What's Leading You?

ree

Today we are talking about: What Is Leading You?

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to be led by the wrong things? Feelings, routines, stress, or even a good old-fashioned to-do list can take the driver’s seat before we realize it. We all have something leading us—but the question is: what or who is it?

Galatians 5:16 — “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

This scripture tells us to “let the Holy Spirit guide your lives.” That means inviting God into the everyday moments, not just the big decisions. It’s about pausing long enough to ask, “Lord, are You leading this—or am I?”

Today, let’s talk about what’s steering your thoughts, your choices, and your direction—and how to realign when life gets off track.

Big decisions can really weigh on us. We can focus on the outcome of what could be, and we could really let it control our every decision or daily activity. When we focus on the decision like that, we can really struggle to see anything else. It’s like we are wearing blinders.

The Bible tells us to let the Holy Spirit lead us, and that means in every decision that we make. God doesn’t want us to struggle; He wants us to be able to come to Him, knowing that He is in control, and to depend on Him to give us the answers and direction we are seeking.

God provided us with the Helper, the Holy Spirit, so let’s not forget that He is there.

We can make so many decisions in a day, and some are menial, and some are big. I think we can make some of those choices on our own and some need to seek the Lord for clarity. But either way, the Holy Spirit is there guiding you.

So, you may wonder what to eat or what to wear, and though we don’t need to seek the Lord on those decisions exactly, I believe the Spirit is there, guiding us and refining us to make good choices. Like, should I wear that, or should I really eat that?

I don’t think anything is too small for God, and He does care about every part of our lives, and He makes all things work together for our good. So, I say: seek direction and understanding in all things, since God cares about all things.

We do have free will and can make choices on our own, but just having the remembrance of the Holy Spirit’s guidance in the back of our minds at all times is very helpful and comforting—it reminds us we are never alone.

What leads you? This made me think of a horse with a bridle on.

This horse goes where it pleases, for the most part, until it has a bridle put on; then its keeper is the one that guides it, directing its steps and leading it to where it should go.

When we become saved by Jesus, God becomes our keeper, our guide, and the one who leads our steps. Following His commands is similar to that of a horse that wears a bridle. When we follow God where He leads, we will get exactly to where we need to be—and at the exact, perfect time—because God knows what is best for us. Therefore, He should be what is leading us.

We all like to think we’re in control, right? But when we’re led by emotions, comfort, or comparison, it usually ends in frustration. The Holy Spirit leads differently—He doesn’t rush; He directs. Sometimes He’ll even slow you down when everything around you says, “hurry up.”

So, if you’ve been feeling pulled in every direction, maybe it’s time to stop and ask, “Is this Spirit-led, or self-led?”

Galatians 5:16 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

Many times here, we have discussed a lot about how control, emotions, routines, and stress guide us, but it is so important to look at things like this from different angles, because we can think we understand and then realize God still has some refining to do.

This is why the Bible mentions the same things in multiple ways, so that we can fully understand why God is saying it to us.

So, thinking on the question of what’s leading you makes us wonder how we spend our time, how we are perceived by others, and whether we are walking in a way that is pleasing to the Lord.

Often, we go about things not really thinking much of them, but today I want to encourage you to spend some time asking the Lord about what is leading you, what changes you need to make, and to let Him guide you through it.

Just as Jesus told the disciples that God would send them someone to help them, to be with them at all times, and to guide them, that same promise is for us when we become saved through Jesus.

Once saved, the Holy Spirit empowers us just as He did the disciples. He transforms us and makes us strong and bold for the Lord.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, we are able to do and overcome more than we would without Him. It is because of the Holy Spirit that our faith in God does not waver. Through the Holy Spirit, we know and understand the power of God.

So, as you go about your walk with the Lord, knowing that He has given you the Holy Spirit, ask yourself whether things are you-led or Spirit-led.

The truth is: what leads us shapes us.

If fear is leading, we’ll live small. If pride is leading, we’ll live exhausted. But when the Spirit leads, we live peacefully when things don’t make sense. God’s direction isn’t always the easiest path, but it’s always the best one. The more we learn to follow His gentle nudge, the more clearly we recognize His voice.

Galatians 5:16 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

Sometimes things happen in life where you just get this sudden feeling that something is off or just isn’t right, and I fully believe that is the nudging of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit protects us from many things in our lives, and when we feel that nudge, it generally means we need to be paying attention so that we don’t get caught up in something we don’t need to be in.

I know, personally, I have had many instances where I was in the midst of something and suddenly I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me, wanting me to pay attention to what He had for me in it. These instances can range on many levels depending on what is going on, but the point is: the Holy Spirit is there with us and guiding us in all of it. He is our Helper.

When you feel the Holy Spirit nudging you to make changes, we can often question those inclinations.

God directs our steps and leads us down the right path, and the Spirit helps us by guiding us as believers through changes—by renewing our minds, convicting us of sin, producing spiritual fruit, and empowering us for service.

So, as we learn to listen and adapt to the changes that the Lord is trying to make within us, we can rely on the Spirit to give us the strength to help us through the convictions, mind changes, and spiritual growth.

Listen and follow God, and allow the Holy Spirit to work through you to glorify God.

Take a moment and really think about it: what’s leading you right now? Is it worry, ambition, routine… or the Spirit of God? Galatians 5:16 reminds us that life led by the Spirit looks different—it’s calmer, wiser, and full of purpose. Let God take the lead, even in the little things.

When God leads, peace follows. Let Him guide your next step.
