We Need Encouragement

Today, we’re talking about the power of encouragement. Life can be heavy at times, but God calls us to lift each other up and lean on Him for strength. Whether you need encouragement or want to encourage someone else, this is for you.

Isaiah 50:4 says, “The Sovereign Lord has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.”

A few years back now I was asked to share my testimony. I had never done that before and so I was unsure of how it was going to be taken or received. Thankfully the Lord calmed my nerves and really spoke through me in that time. I got such great encouragement before and after that it helped me spiritually and mentally to know that God can us our stories.

Think of someone that you can uplift today and to open your hearts to God’s encouragement to share with them.

God see’s your struggle and that is encouraging to us because we know we aren’t alone.

Psalm 56:8 says, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.”

God intimately knows and cares about our hardships. We may not think about it, but it is true that scripture and many others points us back to the fact the God is with is.

God’s presence brings comfort even when we feel invisible and when we are struggling, we do feel that way because we are consumed by the struggle and not really seeing for feeling that we are seen.

I have found that when it is hard to verbally express myself that I can write it out and really be open with God and express my struggle to Him and in that I am better able to transition my thoughts into prayers.

How does knowing God see’s your pain encourage you?

God give us strength for the journey.

God provides unexpected blessing in our hardest moments.

Isaiah 45:3 says, “I will give you treasures hidden in the darkness—secret riches. I will do this so you may know that I am the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who calls you by name.”

Trusting God reveals hidden treasure of hope and strength. It is said in the scripture that we are to count all (good and bad) as joy. So, as we walk through hard moments that joy and hope when seeking the Lord through it is the hidden treasure. What a blessing that God gives us these precious jewels and moments.

I was going through a difficult time when my kids were babies and toddlers (I had 3 kids under the age of 4). I was a stay-at-home mom, and I really struggled mentally and emotionally. Thinking back on it, I may have struggled with Postpartum depression a little. But the Lord really never let me go during that time and I can see that now. Not knowing what was happening with me and really truly feeling so many emotions and not knowing how to handle them was a very difficult time. But God provided a safe space for me in my home to call out to Him, to seek Him and to provide exactly what I needed. He kept me sane to be honest. Looking back now I am so thankful for His protection over me.

Do you have any hidden blessing that God has revealed to you in challenging times?

God’s promises are a source of hope and encouragement. We can read one of those promises in Exodus 14:14, which says, “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Thank you, Lord, for fighting on my behalf.

Staying calm and trusting God does not come easy but when we do stay calm, we are faithfully trusting God to work on our behalf. That calmness is peace beyond measure and beyond understanding.

When you feel like you need to stand in truth and promise memorize and speak Exodus 14:14 over your life and firmly believe that “The Lord himself will fight for you.”

How can trusting God’s promises bring you peace and transform your heart and mind?

We all need encouragement. Proverbs 25:11 says, “The right word at the right time is like a custom-made piece of jewelry.”

The power of timely, kind words really do uplift someone’s spirit. When we allow God to guide us and give us the right time then those words make big impacts.

I used to be better in tune with hearing encouragements from the Lord and when I would, I would send texts and write notes knowing that God really wanted that person to hear that encouragement. So, I want to encourage all of us to really take the time to hear for God and when you get a word and feel the prompting from the Lord to send an encouragement do it.

Prayerfully seek opportunities to encourage others. Ask God to direct you to someone today that could really use some encouragement.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

Encouragement isn’t just words—it’s showing up for others.

Have you ever seen those videos of a kid’s program and the kids are looking around for their parents and as soon as they spot their parents they so filled with joy and smile so big and wave because they are encouraged that someone showed up for them.

As we get older, we still want that kind of encouragement and for others to show up for us. We want to be seen and that is something that we can do for each other. Showing up and small acts of service makes a big impact.

There are many different ways to show up for someone but one example I have is that you can show up for someone by offering to help with a small task or errand.

Think of how you can use your time and actions to encourage someone.

Acts 11:24-26 says, “Meanwhile, the word of the Lord continued to spread, and there were many new believers. Barnabas and Saul stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people.”

I found that earlier on in Acts in chapter 4:36 we can read that Barnabas’ name was Joseph, but it was changed to Barnabas which means to “Son of Encouragement.” He was given this name by the other apostles, and it was changed because of his faithfulness and prayer for others. He made impacts through his kindness, gentleness and compassion towards others which God many times to uplift others throughout scripture.

Praying for other is a form of encouragement and it strengths them, we are interceding on their behalf and in that we are building the body of Christ through prayer.

So maybe reach out to someone and encourage them by praying for them.

We need to live a life of encouragement not only for us for but others. Because every day trials come but when we get into God’s Word, and we live by that encouragement we will persevere through difficult times.

2 Corinthians 4:8 says, “We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.”

We are pressed by troubles, but we are not crushed nor are we driven to despair because of the Lord.

We can really connect and be encouraged by hearing and sharing testimonies of how God has worked in lives. So, when the opportunity comes and if you are willing and think God is prompting you then I say share your testimony with someone who might need that encouragement.

How has God used a hard time in your life for you to encourage someone or do you remember a time that someone shared with you, and it encouraged you?

Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.”

This is a tall order, but I understand it tells us to have discernment and to think before we speak. We want to bring comfort to others and also make sure we are speaking in a way that is true. When we do this, we may find it easier to bring encouragement into our daily conversations.

Choose grace-filled words because in that we are reflecting God’s love.

Often times I am told my tone can sound a bit harsh or I can come across a certain when even when I’m not trying to. So, I do try to make sure that I am relaying my words and tone in a certain way. I’ve become increasingly more aware of how I am perceived but in that I think I’m more or less practicing to let my conversation be gracious and attractive.

Let’s make it a goal to give some genuine compliments more often.

God is our ultimate source of encouragement and strength.

Psalm 29:11 says, “The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.”

When we are encouraged by God we can then easily pour into others. We are able to be encouraged every day by the Lord by getting into the Word, by remembering who we are in Him, and by praying and asking Him to guide us and give us discernment.

Spend time in worship and thanksgiving and draw closer to the Lord and let Him strengthen you. Also ask Him to help you share that strength with others as well.

Encouragement is like a ripple effect. When we lean on God for strength and share His love with others, it spreads hope and joy. Let’s go into today ready to uplift those around us and trust God to uplift us.

Encouragement is a gift we give to others, but it starts with receiving it from God.

Go out and be a source of encouragement to someone today.
