We Have Purpose

Today’s Topic: Living Purposefully

Every day, God gives us opportunities to live with intention—to love deeply, serve faithfully, and glorify Him in all we do. Let’s explore what it means to live with purpose and how we can align our daily lives with God’s plans.

Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.”

God really brought joy and clarity to my life in the midst of grief. It was a season of not only walking through grief but also healing from a lot of things. Being intentional and sitting with the Lord through all of that really changed my life forever.

So, I want to encourage you to reflect on your priorities and align them with God’s purpose for your life.

I think a huge part of understanding what God has for us is to ask Him to help us understand His purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

Each of us is uniquely created for a purpose. That main purpose is to tell the world about who He is and about His love. But in that, what is our main focus to be? What is it that God is specifically calling us to? We need to remember that purpose isn’t busyness, but it is about aligning with God’s will.

So, let’s explore that today by asking God to reveal His purpose for our lives.

Knowing that God has a purpose and knowing that He knows you inside and out, how does that shape your walk with the Lord? How does that spur on your purpose and your willingness to walk in that purpose?

As we continue to talk about living with purpose, we need to look at living with an eternal perspective. Life is short, but living with eternity in mind gives each moment meaning.

Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”

Our daily choices can have eternal impacts.

On my desktop screen, it says, “Be Purposeful. Make Impacts. Follow God’s Lead.” I have that there so that I can read it daily and align my thoughts and my mission here at KJIC with what God wants me to do. When we take the time to be open to what God has for us, we better equip ourselves to live with purpose.

So, take some time and pray about it, and write down one way you can make an eternal difference today.

What would change in your life if you viewed it through the lens of eternity?

1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

This just reiterates what we have talked about this hour. The things we do day to day make an impact not only on us but also on others. Purpose isn’t just for big decisions; it is in the small daily acts of faithfulness. All things work for God’s purpose.

Bringing glory to God through our work, relationships, and service fulfills our purpose and brings God glory.

How can you glorify God in the ordinary moments of your day?

Choose one small task today and do it with purpose and gratitude.

When living with purpose, we also need to think about living purposefully in our relationships.

Hebrews 10:24 says, “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”

Encouragement and love go a long way when we are talking about connections and relationships. Intentional love strengthens relationships and reflects Christ’s love.

Encouragement and support are purposeful acts of love, and when we are purposeful in our relationships, it shows others how much they mean to us. There is something special about someone who takes the time to connect with us, leaving us feeling heard and seen.

Take time with each other. Send out a text or make a call to encourage someone today. Be purposeful and show the love of God to one another.

There is also purpose in forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a purposeful choice that frees us and reflects God’s grace.

Colossians 3:13 says, “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”

When we hold on to offenses, we can become distracted from living purposefully. Those things can stop us from doing what God has called us to do. They can stop us from loving others the way we should, and we can also find ourselves in a position that we thought we could handle or overcome but really just find ourselves acting more on feelings than with purpose.

Pray and ask God to show you what you might be harboring, and let Him show you what you need to work on and release so that you can fully live purposefully for Him.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

Words have the power to build up or tear down—we should be choosing to speak life into each other. When we do that, we are hearing more about what the Lord says about us than about what the world says about us. When we surround ourselves with truth speakers, no matter what is said, it will be well-received when it is done with the love, wisdom, and kindness of God.

Purposeful communication strengthens relationships and honors God. As Christ-followers, we need to focus on being that light and hope that is purposeful with our words. We need to allow God to speak through us in every conversation.

Speak one intentional word of encouragement or gratitude to someone today with the purpose of showing God to all we come in contact with.

How can you use your words to reflect love and purpose?

Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”

Our priorities reveal our purpose. What are your main priorities? Do they need to be reevaluated and restructured so that you can be more purposeful? I know mine have to be reevaluated from time to time.

One way to reevaluate is to seek God and ask Him to help us stay centered and purposeful with all we have and all we do. Start by asking Him to guide your priorities to align with what He has for you each day.

What changes can you make to align your priorities with God’s purpose?

To live purposefully, we need to overcome distractions.

Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

As we focus on realigning our priorities to be purposeful, we need to identify what is weighing us down and work to remove it. For me, I can tend to focus on the wrong thing in a task—like the outcome more than the effort. Sometimes I just want to get through it, so my priority is simply getting it done. But it should be on the entire process.

Being intentional is about removing what holds us back and ensuring we don’t skip over what matters most.

Identify something you can work on today and remove all distractions so you can get it done.

What distracts you from living a purposeful life, and what is the best way for you to address it?

Trusting God’s plan gives us confidence to live with intention.

Psalm 37:23 says, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

Even when we don’t see the full picture, we can trust God’s purpose.

When it’s foggy outside and we can hardly see a few feet in front of us, we still know there’s a road ahead. We don’t doubt that we’ll make it through, so we continue on, knowing that because there’s a path, we can follow it.

That is exactly how we should think about the path God has put in front of us. We may not be able to see clearly, but we can trust that God does and that, since He has placed it, we can follow it.

What area of your life seems a bit hazy, and how can you trust God more fully with it? How does trusting God’s direction free you to live purposefully?

Let’s recount what we discussed today. We talked about living with purpose, and in that, we discussed understanding purpose, living purposefully in relationships, and staying focused on God’s plan.

Being purposeful isn’t about being perfect—it’s about making daily choices to glorify God, love others, and trust His plan.

Purposeful living begins with a heart fully surrendered to God and a life fully committed to His glory.
