Today we’re talking about – We Are Messengers
Now before you picture yourself running around in biblical sandals with a scroll, don’t worry—we’re keeping it lighthearted! But seriously, if you’ve ever wondered whether your life has purpose, let me remind you this morning: it does.
As followers of Jesus, we carry a message everywhere we go—one of love, grace, and truth. So let’s talk about how we’re all part of God’s delivery system, no postage required.
Main Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT) — “So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’”
Being a messenger isn’t just about what we say—it’s about how we live. We carry the message, yes, but we also walk it out every day.
What does it mean to be a messenger of God?
It’s not about having the perfect words; it’s about having a willing heart.
We all deliver messages—through texts, emails, facial expressions, and even how we drive.
Think of it like this—what if your face is a billboard? What’s it saying when you’re stuck in traffic? Or just listening to a conversation… my facial expressions can often speak for themselves.
So, whether we mean to or not, we’re always delivering something. Let’s make it something good.
2 Corinthians 5:20 says we’re ambassadors—official representatives. That means we carry not just the message but the heart of the One who sent it.
Do you think about your message?
After a conversation, do you wonder what message your life is delivering to others?
I know personally I have walked away from many conversations, replaying them over and over to make sure I came across the way I wanted. Of course, my perspective is different than others’, but I still want to make sure I’m conveying good character and living that out.
The message we carry is not a message of perfection—it’s of reconciliation. We’re not saying, “Get it together.” We’re saying, “Come back to God—He’s waiting for you.”
I can tell you right now, I know I’m not always gonna be right, get things right, or even do a good job at sharing the message. BUT I’m gonna try, and I’m gonna do my best to follow the Lord’s lead through it all.
I think the biggest thing for us to know is that we can share God’s Good News message in so many ways, but the best way is by being present.
Showing up, caring, and loving others is the best way to live out the message of Christ.
Your kindness could be the envelope that carries hope.
You’ve heard the phrase “actions speak louder than words”?
This is where that comes to life.
You may be the only “Bible” someone reads today. Your reactions, your kindness, your patience—that’s your message.
Sometimes my message says, “Jesus loves you”… and sometimes it says, “I need more coffee.” Let’s aim for more of the first!
God doesn’t wait for you to be a preacher to use you. Grocery store trips, office lunches, playdates—those are your mission fields.
God often uses ordinary people to share His extraordinary message. The Bible proves that to us. Jesus sought out everyday people to walk with Him and to call His disciples.
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT) — “So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making His appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!’”
God’s favorite messengers aren’t perfect—they’re available.
The toughest part of being a messenger is when the message is hard. Ever heard that saying, “Don’t shoot the messenger”? Sometimes being a messenger means saying tough things—or living differently when it’s not popular.
This is hard because it goes against the mainstream. It’s like watching salmon try to swim upstream… some sit there in one spot hoping to make it through, and others jump ahead knowing that things just have to be done differently to make it down the path laid out in front of them.
Truth shared in love travels farther than truth shouted in fear, and you never know who’s watching, listening, or being encouraged by your faith.
Let’s talk about being sent. Not only do we carry a message and live the message—we’re also sent on purpose. No random routes here—you’ve got divine directions.
God has placed you in your family, your job, your neighborhood, and yes—even that long grocery store line—for a reason.
Sometimes these are also the toughest places for us to live out our message, but God has a plan for everything. So, know that you don’t have to go somewhere “special” to be sent. You’re already there.
It’s not always big speeches. It’s text check-ins, smiles to strangers, grace in frustrating moments. Being a messenger of God is found in the smiles, handshakes, hugs, texts, phone calls… all the everyday moments.
God uses us to help others feel seen and heard.
God can use even the “oops, I forgot to text you back” moments for His glory—once you do text back, of course.
Your weakness doesn’t disqualify...God's uses our weaknesses for His glory and He equips us.
I can confidently tell you I feel underqualified, but the Lord guides me and helps me fill in the gaps, and through Him I am qualified.
He equips me, and He equips you.
Your weakness doesn’t disqualify the message—it magnifies the Messenger.
What’s one small way you can be a messenger of hope today?
Could be a prayer, a text, a smile, or a helping hand.
Keep in mind that the message is simple:
Jesus loves. Jesus saves. Jesus sees you. Go share it—with your words and your life.
You’re not just here—you’re sent. You are God’s ambassador, His messenger, His voice of grace in someone’s day. You don’t need fancy words or a perfect life—you just need to show up and carry the love of Jesus. So go be a messenger today—not with pressure, but with purpose.
