Unity

Unity - It’s something we all need, whether in our families, communities, or even across the country. We’ll be diving into what the Bible says about unity and how we can come together despite our differences.

You know, when we think about unity, it’s easy to think of it as just getting along with others, but it’s so much deeper than that. Unity is about working together towards a common goal, supporting each other, and lifting each other up.

One of the most powerful scriptures about unity comes from Psalm 133:1, which says, “How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!” That’s the kind of unity that God desires for us. When we come together in harmony, there’s a blessing that comes with it—a sense of peace and strength that we can’t achieve on our own.

In our world today, it’s easy to focus on what divides us—different opinions, backgrounds, and experiences. But when we choose to focus on what unites us, especially our faith in Christ, we find that we’re stronger together. Unity doesn’t mean we have to agree on everything, but it does mean that we’re committed to loving each other, supporting each other, and working together for the greater good.

One place I see unity in the way it is intended is when we volunteer for things. Our church does a compassion day and so many sign up for a common goal of helping one another. We come together and unite in being the hands and feet of Jesus and it is amazing to see how each and every one of us are all there doing the same thing and that is to show the love of Jesus to all we come in contact with.

So today, let’s try to build unity wherever we are—whether it’s at home, at work, or in our communities. Let’s be intentional about bringing people together and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

Christian unity, is a state of oneness, harmony, and love among believers in Jesus Christ. It’s about connecting as a community of believers who are like minded in the goal of sharing the gospel and using the gifts God gave us to do so.

The Bible speaks to this in 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, where it says, “The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So, it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.” We are all different, yet we are all part of one body in Christ.

The passage explains that the Holy Spirit has baptized each believer into the body of Christ, placing them where they are needed to benefit the body as a whole. The diversity of the body's parts enhances the body as a whole, and so does the diversity within the body of Christ.

As Christ followers we are all called to share the gospel in whatever way it is the Lords leads you. So, whether you’re at school, at work, or in your community, let’s take the moments and opportunities to embrace the each other’s gifts and work together in unity to share the love that Christ gives us to others.

We’ve discussed the power of unity and the beauty of unity in the gifts the Lord gives, but now I want to talk about something just as important as unity in action.

It’s one thing to talk about unity, but it’s another thing entirely to live it out. The Bible gives us clear instructions on how we can actively pursue unity. Ephesians 4:3 says, “Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Notice the words “make every effort”—unity doesn’t just happen; it requires intentionality and effort on our part.

So, what does unity in action look like? It’s showing kindness to someone who thinks differently than you. It’s lending a helping hand to someone in need. It’s choosing to forgive when you’ve been wronged. It’s standing together in prayer and support for those going through tough times. When we take these steps, we’re not just talking about unity—we’re living it out in a way that reflects God’s love to the world.

As we go about our day today, let’s think about how we can put unity into action. Whether it’s in our families, our workplaces, or our communities, let’s be intentional about building bridges, fostering understanding, and working together for the common good. Remember, we’re stronger together, and when we come together in unity, amazing things can happen.
