Trusting God with our loved ones
I have struggled with anxiety at different times in my life. In those moments, I found myself focusing on the "what ifs" and everything that could happen. Negative thoughts would swirl around in my mind, and I would become fearful of things that might never even happen. As you can imagine, I often talked myself out of doing certain things because of those fears.
Then I had kids.
Now those anxious thoughts didn't just revolve around me or my husband, they revolved around my children too.
Dropping them off at school on the first day of kindergarten was a mental battle that I had to learn to overcome. If I prayed and asked God to take care of them, then I had to believe that He would, in fact, do just that.
Over time, my fear and anxiety began to subside because I truly started to believe that everything would be okay—not because of me, but because of God.
1 Peter 5:7 - Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
God also began to show me something important. My children were His long before they were mine. He has a plan for each of them, and they each have their own path to walk and their own testimony to tell.
There are many Scriptures that remind us to trust the Lord—not only with our own lives but also with the lives of those we love. The verses I mention today are just a few of the many promises God gives us.
One verse I have carried with me personally is:
Isaiah 41:10 – “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
The Scriptures that continually bring me back to trusting God are the ones that remind me He is my refuge, my protector, my rescuer, and the One who never leaves me. They remind me that He truly cares for me.
As I grew in understanding God's character and His faithfulness toward me, it became much easier to believe that those same promises also applied to my family and my loved ones.
Relationships have come and gone throughout my life. Some have been difficult to let go of, some have simply been separated by distance, and others have become strained. Every one of them has been hard in its own way because of the unknown, and it's often in the unknown that fear and distrust begin to creep in. We feel the need to control what we cannot control.
But God's Word reminds us that He is the One who rescues, protects, and remains faithful.
Psalm 91:14-16 says, “The Lord says, ‘I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.’”
If I truly love the Lord, then I have to believe and trust Him in every situation and with every relationship. I don't have to be in control because God already is.
And the same is true for you.
Learning to trust Him takes time because life brings hurt, separation, disappointment, conflict, and pain.
Psalm 91:9-11says, “If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.”
Trusting God doesn't mean difficult things won't happen. It means we don't have to walk through them alone. He is with us, strengthening us, comforting us, and reminding us that He never leaves His children.
If you're struggling to trust the Lord—not only for yourself but also with your loved ones—let this, be an encouragement today.
We may feel like there is no one we can fully trust, but God and His Word tell us otherwise.
Throughout Scripture we read promise after promise, and over and over again we see God faithfully fulfill every one of them.
He doesn't make promises and then walk away.
He doesn't forget.
He doesn't change His mind.
That simply isn't His character.
Seek the Lord and know that what He says is true. His character is unchanging, and His faithfulness is displayed throughout His Word.
And above all, remember this: God loved us so much that He sent His one and only Son to live among us, die for us, and make a way for us to spend eternity with Him.
He promised a Savior—and He kept that promise.
If God can be trusted with our eternity, we can trust Him with today and with the people we love the most.
