You know, time is one of the most precious resources we have. But how often do we stop to think about where it goes? Are we spending it in ways that matter for our faith, our family, and our future?
AW Tozer says, “When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.”
When we evaluate what we are doing with our time we can set boundaries, adjust and make time for what we should be prioritizing.
It’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life. Work, social media, and even distractions can eat up our time. But have you ever noticed how the things we prioritize shape our day—and sometimes, our lives?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately… actually I think about this multiple times a year because I just get so caught up in the distractions or wanting to tune out and escape. But what I have noticed is that when I realize I’ve leaned more into the distractions of life I’m not following through in my time with God. So then when I adjust and make the effort to prioritize my time with God the things that were distracting me don’t matter to much anymore.
James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”
It is all about realizing what is distracting you from what God for you. Let’s evaluate where our time is being spent and not to forget about God.
The Bible gives us a lot of wisdom about time. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” It’s a reminder that our days are limited, and we need to be intentional about how we spend them.
My husband and I were talking about the word wholeheartedly and what it means and how we apply it to our walk with the Lord. I said that it is doing as God calls us without question. When I think about that and how we get to that point it is in the time when spend with God. How we seek Him in all we do and in truly realizing that we are to spend our days following His will for our lives.
Maybe today is a good day to pause and ask ourselves, ‘Am I using my time in ways that honor God?’ Whether it’s spending time with family, serving others, or simply resting in His presence, every moment counts.
What is one thing that you could find today to adjust how you are spending your time? What can you do to be more intentional in seeking the Lord?
We don’t realize how much time slips through our fingers. Maybe it’s scrolling through social media or binge-watching TV. None of that’s bad, but when it starts taking time away from things that truly matter, it’s worth re-evaluating.
When my kids come and talk to me or when I am just taking time to anyone, for that matter I try my best to be intentional to listen and not pick up my phone. There is just so much distraction at my fingertips that I sometimes don’t even realize that I’m doing it. It has become something that just happens as I have thought of something to look up or just wondering what is happening in the social media world. The problem then lies with me and allows the distractions to guide me and not be intentional with my time.
So, I want to challenge all of us today—let’s take a little time inventory. What’s one thing you can cut back on, and what’s one area you want to give more time to—whether it’s family, faith, or even rest?
My inventory starts by moving my phone out of sight…. It is simple but it means it’s not easy to grab because it won’t be right next to me.
1 Corinthians 7:35 says, “I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.”
Let’s always evaluate our time and how we can adjust so we don’t get to distracted and miss what God has for us.
Time is a gift from God. Let’s use it well, whether that’s spending more time in prayer, connecting with loved ones, or simply being present in the moment.
