Today we’re talking about The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
Today’s topic is one of those verses that says so much in just a few words — John 14:6 “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
You ever been lost, even with GPS? You’re driving, the map’s spinning, that little voice is “recalculating,” and you’re thinking, “Okay, this can’t be right.” Sometimes life feels just like that — like we’re following directions that keep changing. But Jesus doesn’t give us turn-by-turn updates; He is the way.
He’s not one of many ways — He’s the way. He’s not an opinion among others — He’s the truth. And He’s not just giving us a good life — He is life itself.
So, if you’re feeling a little lost this morning or unsure of which direction to take, take heart — you’ve got the best Guide there is. And He never loses signal.
Did you ever play that game Follow the Leader when you were younger?
It’s kind of like Simon Says, but you are walking in a line doing whatever the line leader was doing. But in that line, there was always that one person who just couldn’t do it — they had to do their own thing — and that confuses others, and the game is then a little derailed.
God is our leader, and we are to follow Him. He gives us the Bible to read and learn and understand, but sometimes we just can’t, and we go our own way.
There is nothing wrong with making a choice and going with it, as long as you have prayed about it and you feel that the Lord is leading you. Otherwise, we are like that one kid in the line who can’t follow directions, and we just do what we want — and that can derail things a little bit.
Following God’s way is something we need to pray about daily and also be intentional to hear, listen, and obey His direction.
When my husband and I were about to be married, I knew every detail but the honeymoon. I let my husband take care of that… but I just couldn’t take it anymore — I needed to know what the plan was. I liked knowing the plan.
We worked here at the radio station at the time, and so when he was out doing something, I went to his desk, looked in his drawer, and I saw a sticky note with his mom’s handwriting on it with the hotel information.
So, because I snooped, I figured out where we were going… I needed to know.
Actually, I didn’t need to know; I wanted to know, and instead of being patient and waiting to see what he had planned, I jumped the gun.
We can do the same with God. He has a plan, and He knows the way, but because we want that knowledge and control, we jump ahead and do things in our way and time. With that, we miss an opportunity for the Lord to show us how great He is — and that the plan He had for us was exactly what we needed.
Learn to trust God and let Him lead the way.
One time I was using my Maps app on my phone because I was driving to have dinner with some friends on the north side of Houston, and I got to this one area, and the app could not figure out how to get me over to the restaurant.
I literally drove in a circle a few times before I called one of my friends, and she said she had the same problem and had to switch apps.
So, I switched, and that app very clearly laid out a path, and I got to my destination without a problem.
It wasn’t funny at the time — now, of course, it is. I don’t get lost easily; I have a good sense of direction, but at that time when I just wasn’t sure, I was so thankful that I was able to reach out to someone and get a solution.
When we feel like life doesn’t compute correctly or that we are just going in circles, we can depend on God to help us out and give us a solution to the issues we are facing. He already knows the way.
John 14:6 (NLT) — “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
We live in a world full of “my truth,” “your truth,” and a lot of noise in between. But Jesus didn’t say He was a truth — He said He was the truth.
And that truth brings life. Not just surviving-the-week kind of life, but the kind that fills your heart with peace, even when things don’t make sense. It’s the kind of life that steadies you when everything else feels uncertain.
When we root ourselves in Jesus, we don’t have to chase identity or approval. His truth anchors us. And His life — that joy, that peace, that purpose — flows through us in ways the world can’t imitate.
So maybe today’s a good day to remind yourself: real truth doesn’t change with trends, and real life doesn’t fade when things get hard. Both are found in Jesus.
Conversations seem to be getting harder and harder.
We all have our own “truths” and opinions. Sometimes we can see both sides of the story, and sometimes we can only understand our side of the story.
But when we go to God — the One who knows all and sees all — we can trust in what He says to be truth. There is no indication anywhere that we should question His Word.
So, though in our humanness we question many things, God is steady and trustworthy, and we can see that from the promises made in the Bible and all the prophecies that have come to fruition. God’s truth is, and always will be, trustworthy above all.
God is truth.
The truth sets us free. When we find things to be truthful, we rest easy knowing that we don’t have to try to decipher things.
But there are times when our trust is a little rocky when it comes to the truth, and we do analyze and try to figure out what the truth is.
Our scripture is very straightforward in stating that Jesus is the truth.
The question is, do you believe that?
The only way to understand that Jesus is the truth is to draw close to Him and learn His character.
When someone is consistent, we learn to trust in them and that they are speaking truth. As we read through the Bible, we can come to learn that Jesus is consistent and always truthful.
John 14:6 (NLT) — “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.’”
Let’s pause for a moment on that last part — “the life.”
We spend so much time trying to build a life — working hard, checking off goals, and filling our days with what we think will make it all meaningful. But Jesus reminds us that real life isn’t something we create — it’s something we receive. It’s found in Him.
“The life” He offers isn’t just about breathing or existing. It’s about living fully — with joy, peace, and purpose — even on the days that feel messy or uncertain. It’s waking up knowing that your worth isn’t tied to your to-do list but to His love.
So today, let that truth sink in — you don’t have to chase life. When you’re walking with Jesus, you’re already living it.
God gave us life, and when He sent His Son to die for our sins, He offered us eternal life through the belief in that sacrifice.
There is no other way to have life or eternal life.
When we just go about our day not really thinking about that, we can slowly become complacent and just start doing things for ourselves. But when we remember this and thank God every day, we can see life through a lens of gratitude and love.
God gave us life and sent His one and only Son to die for us — for our lives — all because He wants us to live eternally with Him.
Live with the purpose of praising God for the life He gives.
We become our true selves when we are walking with the Lord. It is through Him that we live a life that is full of love and comfort. It is in Him that we come to learn who we are and our purpose.
This world can be so confusing and chaotic, and yet we are able to walk with joy because of God.
With His lead and truth, we are able to walk through life confidently because we know that He is with us, guiding us, correcting us, and with that, we live a life that is purposeful through Him. We know that all we do is for something — and that something is for His glory.
Share Jesus with all you can. Let them know about the life they can have. Let them see Jesus in you by the life you live as well.
A life eternal through Him who believes in Jesus — that is the life I strive to live.
I want to circle back to that verse — John 14:6. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
It’s easy to look for direction, for something steady to stand on, or for a spark that makes life feel full again. But Jesus isn’t just pointing us toward those things — He is those things. He’s the way when we don’t know where to go. He’s the truth when the world feels loud and confusing. And He’s the life that gives every day meaning, no matter how ordinary it seems.
Think of it like this — if life were a road, He’s both the map and the destination. If it were a story, He’s the author and the ending. He doesn’t just walk alongside us — He is the reason we can keep walking.
So, as you go about your day — whether you’re stuck in traffic, wrangling kids, or facing something hard — remember, you’re not figuring this out alone. You have The Way guiding you, The Truth grounding you, and The Life flowing through you.
When Jesus is your way, your truth, and your life — you’ll never lose your direction, your peace, or your purpose.
