Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to sit down, take a deep breath, and escape from all the chaos for a while? Maybe you even had a moment where you didn’t have to fix anything, prove anything, or carry everything? Well, today, we’re talking about exactly that—what it means to sit at the feet of Jesus.
Luke 10:39 – “Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.”
Sitting at Jesus’ feet isn’t just about physically being there—it’s a posture of our hearts. It’s about slowing down, drawing close, and letting Him teach, comfort, and strengthen us.
So today, let’s talk about what it looks like to rest, learn, and be transformed at the feet of Jesus.
The other day, I sat down with my coffee, ready to read my Bible… and somehow ended up scrolling through my phone for 20 minutes. Anyone else? It’s easy to get distracted, but the moments we spend truly sitting with Jesus are the ones that matter most.
Life is exhausting sometimes—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Jesus invites us to come to Him when we’re weary (Matthew 11:28).
I once tried to ‘rest’ by binge-watching a show… and somehow ended up more exhausted than before! Have you ever thought about that? You’ve done nothing and just relaxed, yet somehow you feel more tired than you did before. Why is that? There could be many reasons, but maybe it’s just because we aren’t really releasing anything we’ve been holding on to. So, though we are “relaxing,” that stress, anxiety, and those racing thoughts are still very present.
What’s one thing you need to hand over to Jesus today?
Take a moment today to pause and just sit in God’s presence—no agenda, no to-do list.
Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, completely focused on Him, while Martha was busy and distracted. Now, Martha thought she was doing exactly what she should be doing, but she didn’t think that Mary was doing what she should be doing. So, Martha was busy, but she was actually distracted because Mary decided to do something different. We can be that way as well—doing what we think we should be doing instead of being in the moment and working for the Lord. We are distracted because someone isn’t doing what we think they should be doing. This just shows us that we often live like Martha—busy, worried, and overwhelmed.
I want to encourage all of us to know that it’s okay to step away from the chaos. Jesus doesn’t ask us to do it all—He asks us to come to Him.
Find a place where you can get away and just spend some time sitting at Jesus’ feet. While you are there, ask God if you are more like Mary or Martha in this season of life, and allow Him to help you find peace while sitting with Him.
We all carry burdens, and we all find it hard to hand them over. We don’t want to hand them over to others because we know they are carrying their own, but you know what we can do? We can give our burdens to Jesus.
Sometimes, we hold onto stress and struggles instead of laying them at Jesus’ feet. The Bible tells us that God can handle what we can’t. So why don’t we take the opportunity to turn to Jesus and hand over our struggles to Him?
Way too many times, I have lost sleep over something, worrying and overthinking—only to have it work out perfectly fine the next day. Why do we do that?! Well, if you are like me, it’s because you are playing out every scenario and conversation in your head so that you will know how it could all play out. The funny thing is, most of the time, it doesn’t play out any of the ways we’ve gone over.
So, before you go through every scenario, I suggest just giving it all to God, letting Him have control, and asking Him to give you peace in the matter.
What’s one thing you need to let go of?
Jesus has so much to teach us, but are we really listening? Sitting at His feet means being willing to learn, grow, and be changed. Sometimes, it’s easy to think we already know the answers, but there’s always something new God wants to show us.
I remember a time when I thought I had everything figured out… but then God completely flipped my perspective. It’s funny how we can be so sure of something, only to realize later that we still have so much to learn.
Jesus’ words bring life, but we have to be intentional about hearing them. The Bible isn’t just another book—it’s God speaking directly to us.
What we focus on shapes us. When we spend time in God’s Word, we start to think, speak, and live differently.
So, let’s dive into how we can open our hearts and really listen to what Jesus is teaching us.
Let me share a story with you about learning a lesson the hard way. A high schooler was preparing for a bike race. It was a beautiful day, and he went for a practice ride on the course. He started taking turns faster and faster, and as he went along, his anxiety subsided, and he was in race mode. But in all of that, he got ahead of himself. In that moment, he had an accident—jamming his knee into the bicycle. He got up, finished his practice, and worked on his bike, but his nerves were now getting the best of him. He needed to take time to refocus and be ready for the race.
Here’s the deal: we can all be going along, become so confident, and then one thing leads to another, and something happens, and we are knocked to the ground. What we learn here is that we must keep our focus on the path and ensure that we are keeping God at the center.
Jesus’ way is always better, even when we don’t understand it.
Before getting ahead of yourself, take a moment to pray and ask, “God, what do You think?”
Trust God’s wisdom.
Every season of life teaches us something—if we’re paying attention.
Sitting at Jesus’ feet means being open to growth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Our main scripture for today is found in Luke 10:39: “Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.”
We often become so focused on the task or the season at hand that we forget that God is always working. Even if you feel stuck, He’s preparing you for what’s next.
Look back on a tough season—what was one lesson you learned from it? How has God been growing you lately?
When we spend time with Jesus, we don’t leave the same. His presence changes everything. It’s like spending time with someone who just lifts your spirits—except this is the Creator of the universe we’re talking about!
Spending time with Jesus shifts how we see things. Worries shrink, priorities change, and peace grows.
I love those moments when I sit with Jesus and suddenly, something just clicks—like a weight being lifted or a truth finally sinking in. Have you ever had a moment like that?
Let’s talk about how time at Jesus’ feet transforms us from the inside out.
Let’s talk about walking in God’s strength instead of our own.
Sitting at Jesus’ feet isn’t just about rest—it’s also where we gain strength. When we take time with Him, we’re better equipped to face whatever comes.
If you are feeling weak, I want to encourage you to pray a simple prayer: “Jesus, give me Your strength today.”
We are blessed because Jesus came and died for our sins, and we now have the Holy Spirit with us at all times. This means we don’t have to leave Jesus’ presence when we leave our quiet time—He goes with us.
Sitting at His feet changes how we walk through the rest of our day.
Let’s remember this scripture found in Luke 10:39 and it says, “Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.”
At the feet of Jesus, we find rest when we’re weary, wisdom when we’re lost, and strength when we’re weak. His presence changes everything. The best part? We don’t have to wait for a perfect moment—He’s always there, ready to meet us.
So today, whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just in need of a reset, take some time to sit with Jesus. Even a few minutes can make a difference.
Remember, Jesus is always with you. Lean into Him and let Him give you guidance and strength.
