Sharing The Gospel

This can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. When we lean into the Lord and ask Him to open doors and give us the right words, we may find it much easier than we initially thought.

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: ‘I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”

Recently, I was looking through some social media memories and came across a picture of my kids climbing into bed with me. I was in my room listening to my Bible when they joined me, wanting to be close. So, we all listened to the scriptures together.

This was a moment of sharing the gospel with my kids. Instead of getting annoyed because they were interrupting my Bible time, I invited them to join in and listen with me. It was a moment not only for me but also for them. They needed to see and understand that scripture is for everyone at any time.

They see that their dad and I read our Bibles every day, which teaches them through our actions that it’s important to engage with the Word daily. I've noticed my kids following suit in their own ways. They read at their own pace and in their own time, but at least I know that our example is being seen and absorbed by them.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”

As a Christ follower, this is my hope as a parent. But I also recognize that each of my kids will have their own paths and stories to share. Through it all, I trust that God will be with them.

I read an article that I wanted to share with you. It mentioned that “Sharing the Christian gospel with someone can be an intimidating experience, especially if you’re unsure of how to go about it. However, sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be complicated or scary.”

Mark 16:15 says, “And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.’”

When I was in my teens and early 20s, if someone had told me to go and share the gospel, I would have had a minor panic attack. Trying to share something I wasn’t confident in was terrifying. This can happen when we’re pushed into sharing the gospel instead of letting it come naturally. When it comes up naturally in conversation, we are more authentic and open. But when we’re pressured, we tend to overthink and worry about making mistakes, which can sometimes make things worse.

That’s why I appreciate this quote—it reassures us that sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be scary. We just need to share our experiences with open and honest communication that points to Christ.

There are many different ways to share Christ with others, but I believe the most effective approach is to be open and honest. I wouldn’t suggest having a checklist of things that need to be ticked off to fulfill sharing the gospel.

We often put too much pressure on ourselves. When Jesus was preaching, He was simply sharing and teaching. Our daily conversations and attitudes will reveal a lot about who we are and where we are in our spiritual walks.

1 Peter 3:15 says, “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”

This verse teaches us to always be prepared to share the reason for our hope as believers, emphasizing that we should do so with gentleness and respect. It encourages us to cultivate a deep and reverent relationship with Christ, which naturally inspires us to share our faith. This preparedness involves knowing our testimony and understanding the core of our faith so that we can share it clearly and lovingly with those who are curious. Sharing our faith is about showcasing the love and hope found in Christ.

Just be willing, and the Lord will lead.
