Etty Hillesum – “Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths, or the turning inwards in prayer for five short minutes.”
Rest and rejuvenation – These help us to make it to another day or week. Deep breaths help us from task to task. Prayer and being filled up with the Spirit helps us through is all.
Life is a long series of events and in that it can feel like there are no breaks. Nothing whatsoever, but we are to find rest. The Sabbath is talked about so much in the Bible, yet we find ourselves never resting but jumping from one thing to another.
Psalm 23: 2-3 says, “He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”
How refreshing is the scripture? We can imagine the rest and how peaceful that meadow is and wish to be sitting beside it. If you imagine and think, man that would be great to take that time, then rest is what you need.
Let’s work to find time to rest a rejuvenate. We need to be better about taking time like Jesus taught us in his time here on Earth and rest.
When I think of rejuvenation, I think about the sun shining during the winter. There are times when the grey skies and cold days can make us feel gloomy but when the sun comes out and we feel its warmth we want to be out into and feel that warmth. Now here in Houston our winters are more wet than cold and so the sun is coming out and getting that reprieve from the rain is refreshing. But also, during our summers here when there is cloud cover, a breeze or some showers, we can feel that rejuvenation. There is something about the change that helps light up life a bit.
When we are walking with God, we will always know that in the gloomy or unbearable times God, our light, is there to bring us freshness and rejuvenate our lives.
Psalm 23:3 says, "He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name."
God will renew and refresh us when we need it the most. He will lead us down the paths we are to be on and with that we can rest and trust in Him.
Psalm 68:9 says, “You sent abundant rain, O God, to refresh the weary land.”
Rains come to wash and refresh and can bring renewal. Think spring showers and flowers starting to bloom and the green leaves on the trees start to come out. How pleasing it is to our eyes to see renewal. How refreshing this is to our moods and soul.
The storms of life come, and some can be refreshing and some not so refreshing. We will learn something in every season. God is it in all bringing growth and renewal through it all.
Rest and rejuvenation can bring renewal to our hearts, minds, and spirit. Let’s learn to rest and feel rejuvenated.
