Quality Time

ree

Today we’re talking about quality time—the kind of time that refreshes your soul and reconnects you to what really matters. We’re so busy running from task to task, it’s easy to forget to pause. Psalm 46:10 reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God!”

That stillness isn’t just a pause—it’s intentional time with God, with family, or even with yourself. Today we’ll talk about why slowing down and being present is a gift, and how quality time can refill your heart, recharge your mind, and restore your perspective.

We all know the importance of time, and that includes quality time. Life is fleeting, and we need to be present in every minute of the time the Lord has given us.

We can get so busy that we don’t remember what we did or who we even talked to. That is some busyness… that means that your mind never stopped as well.

When we go through life full throttle all the time, we are very likely to miss some things, and that is why God tells us to take a Sabbath.

We are to be still so that we can hear from the Lord clearly, but also to spend some time with Him as well.

Quality time is something we should be sure to hold on to.

Those that you get a chance to meet, spend time with, and grow with are a big part of your life, and when we don’t take the time with each person, including God, we are missing something of importance. Whether we realize it or not, they speak to our lives, influence us, and encourage us. If we are blowing through life, not truly spending quality time with those in our lives, we can end up feeling like we missed out on something.

Let’s not have any regrets when it comes to spending time with those God placed in our lives or with God Himself.

Take the time; you will be happy you did.

We hear a lot about self-care, and this is actually very important.

When we don’t pay attention to our own needs, we can find ourselves struggling in ways that are not necessary.

Slow down, pay attention to your needs, go to God, and let Him refuel you and fill you up with exactly what it is you need, because honestly, we don’t always know what we need—we just know we need an escape.

Life is hectic, and we often push through because we feel guilty when things don’t get done. Really, we should feel guilty when we are pushing ourselves and not taking time to spend with the Lord. Our constant need to finish can keep us from the time we need to spend with Him.

So yes, do the self-care things, but also be intentional to spend some quality time with the Lord as well.

Let’s focus on why quality time matters. Life is loud, schedules are packed, and distractions are everywhere—but Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God!” reminds us to pause, breathe, and simply be present.

It’s in those moments, when we are focusing on what’s in front of us, that we notice the people around us, hear God’s voice, and feel refreshed in ways a busy checklist can’t provide.

Quality time is dedicating our full attention and dedicating time to the person we are with. This could mean sitting together and connecting, having good conversations, hanging out all day, or even taking a road trip. It involves committing our undivided attention and focus to someone, eliminating all distractions, and letting them know that through this gift of time, they are seen and loved.

One of the love languages is quality time, and I find it to be really fulfilling to give and receive the gift of time.

We have devices in our possession at all times, and just putting that down to talk to someone can really make all the difference to them.

Be intentional with your time.

I think the one thing that disrupts our quality time is distractions. We can be so easily distracted nowadays. We check our phones for notifications like every five minutes; we pick up our phones for a second and then realize we’ve somehow ended up scrolling for five to ten minutes.

That time that we set aside or had good intentions for is now gone because we became distracted.

In order for myself to stay true to the time I have set aside or for the conversations I want to be sure I pay attention to, I put my phone somewhere that I can’t see it. Out of sight, out of mind. Let’s not let something that is not really needed distract us from the quality time we do need.

Let’s talk about putting quality time into practice. Whether it’s a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, a walk with a friend, or time spent reading God’s Word, intentional moments matter. Psalm 46:10 invites us to “be still”—and when we do, we see life more clearly, connect more deeply, and enjoy the blessings God places before us.

Purposefully being still and spending quality time.

I think at this point we have all heard of prayer closets or just places where you can sit alone with the Lord and have some stillness with Him.

I’ve started waking up early before work to make sure that I have time with the Lord. It is hard; I try to make sure I’m paying attention so that I don’t miss what God has for me, but being it early, the tiredness can take over. One way I’m intentional is to get out of bed and sit in the living room with the light on. This way, I’ve positioned myself to stay awake. It does help—being purposeful in my position so that I can be purposeful with my time with the Lord makes a big difference.

How often do you actually take time—quality time by yourself, with others, and with God?

Think about this, and if you immediately say, “I just don’t have time,” then I would adjust your schedule so that you do have time to spend some quality time with yourself, with others, and with God.

Quality time is spoken about in the Bible as a Sabbath. This is a day where you do nothing but get refreshed, rested, and refilled.

God knew what we needed, and so this is why He commanded us to keep the Sabbath holy.

Taking time can seem impossible sometimes, but even if it is just for ten minutes, set aside some time and take that quality time and just soak in the stillness.

As we close out today, here’s the encouragement: don’t let life rush past without moments of quality time. Be still, listen, laugh, talk, and rest.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us that in stillness, we encounter God’s peace, gain clarity, and refill our hearts.

So today, choose one small intentional moment—whether with God, family, or yourself—and savor it.

Life feels richer when we slow down and make time for what really matters.

Make space for quality time in your life!
