Have you ever thought about how God doesn’t just give us enough? He gives in abundance.
In John 10:10, Jesus said, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” That’s a life of overflow. He fills us with His love, His joy, and His peace—not just for our sake but so we can pour out into others.
We’ll explore what it means to live in God’s overflow. How do we stay connected to the source of this abundance? How do we share it with others? And how do we live in gratitude, even when it feels like life is running low?
Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.” These words remind us that God doesn’t just provide—He lavishes us with blessings.
Everything we have is a gift from God. But what keeps us filled up?
Often, we give so much that we forget to be refilled. While self-care is important, spiritually, there are three main ways we can be renewed: through prayer, scripture, and worship. When we seek the Lord and praise Him, His Spirit fills us, and the empty spaces in our hearts are replenished.
What blessing in your life reminds you that your cup overflows?
For me, it’s seeing my children happy. Watching them grow, care for one another and others, and then seeing them step into responsibility reminds me that God is at work in their lives and always will be.
God is ready to fill your cup, so hold it out to Him today and ask Him to fill you up.
John 7:38 says, “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
Jesus invites us to come to Him for the living water that never runs dry.
There have been many times in life when I’ve felt emotionally drained, thinking I couldn’t handle one more thing. During those moments, I’ve found myself crying out to God for help. I often feel most connected to Him when I step outside to pray and pour out my heart. Without fail, He gives me peace and clarity, gently reminding me that I should have come to Him sooner. God is gracious and patient, even when I’m stubborn and try to rely on my own strength.
In those moments of surrender, I feel His presence filling me with love and joy. Though I read and pray regularly, I sometimes miss the true fulfillment that comes from His living water.
God is the one who fills our cups to overflowing when we lean into Him.
In God’s economy of giving: when we pour out, He fills us up again.
Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap.” This verse beautifully reflects how God’s blessings aren’t just for us to hold onto—they’re for sharing.
When we pour out what He’s given us, whether it’s time, resources, or love, He refills us again.
Living in Houston, I’ve seen this firsthand during times of crisis, like Hurricane Harvey and the winter freeze. Churches and communities came together to provide food, shelter, and help. The joy and thankfulness that overflowed during those times were tangible evidence of God’s hand at work. When we give from the abundance God provides, not only are others blessed, but we also experience the joy of being His hands and feet.
2 Corinthians 9:8 says, “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
Sometimes, when we feel the urge to give, doubts creep in. We wonder if we’ll have enough or if we’ll overextend ourselves. But when we trust God and follow His prompting, He ensures that we have all we need—and then some.
Giving isn’t always about finances. It can be a kind word, a prayer, or time spent encouraging someone who needs it.
Every situation requires something different, and when we ask God how we can be a blessing, He will guide us to exactly what is needed.
The overflow of joy that comes from giving is itself a gift from God.
Romans 15:13 says, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Trusting in God fills us with joy and peace that overflow into every part of life. When I’ve felt completely empty, unsure of what to do next, crying out to God has always brought reassurance. Even in my exhaustion, He fills me with the hope I need to keep moving forward, knowing He has a plan.
When we trust in God, His joy and peace will overflow into every area of our lives.
Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
God’s overflow isn’t limited by our imagination—it’s infinitely more.
Are you a planner? Have you set the plan in place and then suddenly something happens, and the plan is out the window but as you push forward you realize that though you had a plan, and nothing is happening according to that plan but everything is still falling into place. God tells us that we can make plans, but He sets our steps.
When we dream big and invite God in from the beginning to set things in motion and we trust Him through the who process that trust will overflow into everything and change your life and those involved because they will see that God is the one who provides all things.
God is able to do more than we can imagine. Let’s trust Him to exceed our expectations today.
God desires for us to live a life of overflow, not just scraping by. He fills us to the brim with His love, peace, and joy—not only for ourselves but so we can pour into others.
Take a moment to reflect on the blessings in your life. Let gratitude for what God has done fill your heart and overflow into everything you do. His blessings are limitless, and His love is unending.
