Today’s topic is the Names of God. Throughout Scripture, God reveals His character through different names, each showing us something unique about who He is and how He cares for us. When we understand His names, we grow in faith and confidence, knowing that He is everything we need in every situation.
“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.” — Psalm 9:10
Lean into the different names of God as you seek Him today.
Elohim – The Strong Creator
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1
God is powerful, creative, and intentional in how He forms the world and our lives.
Take a moment to admire God’s creation and thank Him for the beauty around you.
How does knowing God as Elohim change the way you see your purpose in His creation?
Jehovah (or Yahweh) – I AM
“God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you.’” — Exodus 3:14
This shows that God is eternal, unchanging, and faithful.
It is so good to know that in this world, where anything and everything can change, the Lord remains unchanging.
When life feels uncertain, remind yourself that God never changes—He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
What does it mean to trust in an unchanging God?
Adonai – Lord and Master
“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!” — Jeremiah 32:17
When we surrender to Him, we find true freedom.
This is so true—when we choose to allow God to have control of all we are, life may feel a little simpler. We aren't trying to hold on so tightly because we are trusting Him to guide us.
Let go of one worry today and trust God as your Lord.
Is there an area of your life where you need to surrender to God’s lordship?
Jehovah Jireh – The Lord Will Provide
“Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means ‘the Lord will provide’).” — Genesis 22:14
God provided a ram for Abraham, just as He provides for us today.
In this story, God told Abraham to sacrifice his son. Because Abraham was obedient, he set out on a journey with his son. When they reached the mountain, Abraham built an altar. His son, not knowing what was truly happening, asked where the lamb was for the sacrifice. Abraham simply replied, "The Lord will provide." Just as Abraham was about to follow through, God stopped him, and suddenly, there was a ram. Abraham untied his son, and together they sacrificed the ram that God had provided.
God's provision may not always look like what we expect, but He never fails.
Write down a time when God provided for you and thank Him for it.
Where do you need to trust Jehovah Jireh’s provision right now?
Jehovah Rapha – The Lord Who Heals
“He said, ‘If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, obeying His commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.’” — Exodus 15:26
Even when healing doesn’t come immediately, God is still at work in our lives.
Spend a moment in prayer today, asking God for healing in an area where you need it.
How have you seen God’s healing power in your life or the lives of others?
Jehovah Shalom – The Lord Is Peace
“And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh-Shalom (which means ‘The Lord is Peace’).” — Judges 6:24
God’s peace is not just the absence of trouble but the presence of His comfort and strength.
The peace we are talking about here is the peace beyond all understanding that only God can provide. It is the peace that allows us to remain calm in the storm because God is peace.
Even in chaotic seasons, Jehovah Shalom offers us deep peace.
Take a deep breath and meditate on the peace that only God can give.
What is one step you can take today to rest in God’s peace?
El Roi – The God Who Sees Me
“Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, ‘You are the God who sees me.’” — Genesis 16:13
Even when we feel invisible, God sees every tear, every struggle, and every joy.
Knowing this changed my life. I went from trying to convince people that I was good to know that God sees me and that is enough.
When you feel alone, remind yourself: God sees me. I am never forgotten.
How does knowing God sees you change the way you see yourself?
Jehovah Nissi – The Lord Is My Banner
“Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means ‘The Lord is my banner’).” — Exodus 17:15
Banners were used in battle to symbolize victory—Jehovah Nissi reminds us that God fights for us.
No matter what battle you’re facing, He has already won the victory.
Praise God, for He is already victorious in any battle we may face.
Declare victory over a challenge you’re facing, knowing that God is with you.
What battle do you need to give over to Jehovah Nissi today?
Abba – Father
“So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, ‘Abba, Father.’” — Romans 8:15
God desires a close, loving relationship with us as His children.
Just as parents and grandparents want a close relationship with their children and grandchildren, God wants that kind of relationship with us.
Spend time in prayer, simply talking to God as your loving Father.
Do you see God as a loving Father? Why or why not?
We’ve explored the many names of God, each revealing something beautiful about His character. He is our Creator, Provider, Healer, and Father—everything we need.
When you face challenges, call on the name of God that speaks to your need. He is faithful, and He will never fail you.
To know God’s names is to know His heart. He is everything you need at every moment.
Remember—you are known, loved, and seen by the great I AM.
