Making a Connection

ree

Have you ever really thought about why connections matter and how God designed us for them?

We all make connections and have relationships, but have you ever considered how God moved and placed that person — or those people — into your life at exactly the right time?

Sometimes as we move through our day-to-day lives, it can be hard to make connections, especially new ones. Everyone has their own stuff going on, and it can feel difficult to connect and keep connecting.

We connect best when we slow down long enough to notice the people — and the God — right in front of us.

Let’s not zip past the ones God has placed in our lives this season.

Our lives are busy — or at least we stay busy — and every now and then we try to connect with someone, but the timing just doesn’t work. It’s like trying to send a text message that won’t go through because the phone has no signal.

Just keep trying… have coffee, have conversations, and make it something you do at least once a month. This helps you feel connected and stay connected. So much good has come from making connections and coming together in unexpected ways.

When we talk about connection, we’re not just talking about connecting with each other — but also with God.

God desires a relationship with us, and connection with Him brings not only clarity in life but clarity in every other connection we have.

Psalm 145:18 says, “The Lord is close to all who call on Him, yes, to all who call on Him in truth.”

Connection with God fuels connection with others. He will guide you and your relationships.

When I meet someone new, I’m very upfront: I probably won’t remember their name and may have to ask again… but eventually I will get it.

I’m so bad at remembering names, and it can be embarrassing because I never want to seem disrespectful — my memory is just… not great.

In school there were so many cliques and so many people felt overlooked. Understandably so. But I knew one girl who never treated anyone as overlooked. She talked to everyone and made them feel seen. I always admired that.

We overlook and feel overlooked far more than we realize — but when we’re intentional about connection, it can change someone’s entire day.

God meets you right where you are and draws you close.

This is comforting, especially on days when you feel like you’re doing all the right things yet still feel lacking. Even if we try not to let it get to us… it does.

But God meets us right there because He knows us. Keeping our connection with Him above all else is where our focus should be — especially when life is hard.

Have you ever had a conversation with someone who gives one-word answers?

Awkward.

And then there are people who, when you ask their name, give you their entire life story.

Also awkward.

Everyone connects differently. People are interesting.

Have you ever had a “foot-in-mouth” moment? A misconnection, misunderstanding, or a comment you instantly regretted? Yeah… I’m that person. Some days I simply can’t say anything right. That’s when I put myself in timeout before I make things worse.

The good news? No matter how you communicate, there are people who know you. People who understand you. And when we struggle to connect, we can rely on those relationships — the ones where we can be fully ourselves. Those are the meaningful connections worth holding onto.

When we feel like we’re spiraling, we often withdraw. The struggle is deep, and we go inward. But reaching out — even just asking someone to pray — keeps us connected. It brings healing. It reminds us that we’re not alone, and sometimes clarity comes more quickly because others are praying with us.

Jesus modeled connection. He was present, compassionate, and He listened. One of my favorite phrases in Scripture is, “Jesus had compassion for them.”

When I read that, I see a Savior who stopped, listened intently, and took His time with people.

Every moment mattered to Him — and it should matter to us. Let’s slow down… have the conversation… say the prayer… and share a moment of kindness.

Have you ever been going about your day, and suddenly someone’s name pops into your mind?

Do you shrug it off?

Or do you recognize it as God’s nudge?

God is always working. People we know are always in need of something — encouragement, prayer, support.

If God places someone on your heart today, reach out. Let them know you’re thinking of them.

Let’s take a moment to pray:

Lord, thank You for those You place in our paths — whether for a season or for years. Thank You for our loved ones and our community. Open our hearts to the conversations You want us to have. Help us stay connected to You above all else. Thank You for always being with us. Amen.

As a parent, trying to have a conversation with my kids in the room is always interesting. They suddenly become nosey and want my full attention — even though they spent the last two hours in their rooms not caring what I was doing. But the second I’m talking to someone… goodness.

Sometimes it’s hard to be present in our conversations.

The same is true in prayer.

Have you ever been praying and suddenly remember your grocery list…Or something you needed to tell your spouse…Or ten random things at once? Sure you have.

But God is patient. He knows us. And we can jump right back into prayer without guilt.

Don’t let distractions pull you away from your relationship with God. He’s the One who keeps us together.

Connection is one of God’s greatest gifts.

He invites us to connect with Him daily — and then to reflect His love through our connections with others.

Connections, no matter how small, can change someone’s day.

Is there someone you feel God nudging you to connect with today? Do it.

Do you need a deeper connection with God… with someone else… or even with yourself?

Ask Him — and He will provide what you need.
