Is God leading you or are your emotions leading you?

Our hearts are fickle things, and our emotions can be misleading. But God is always steady. When we allow Him to give us the desires of His heart, that path leads to more than we could imagine.

Philippians 4:6-8 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

When we rely on God fixing our thoughts is easier and over time can become more natural. It was become easier when making decisions, be cause we are leaning on the peace God gives and not our own understanding in things.

I personally have experienced anxiety about doing something, either because it is new or because I am unsure if I should proceed. It has almost stopped me in my tracks not to do what should be done. Fear causes a lot of us to not step out and to forget to go to God.

So if I were giving advice to someone (and yes, I should listen to this too), I would ask how they feel about it. I would then encourage them to think about the decision and choose what they feel more comfortable with doing. Maybe even just going with their gut instinct.

My aim is to prompt them to reflect on the situation and understand the reasons behind their feelings. Ultimately, I want them to grasp the underlying factors, enabling them to make decisions with a level-headed approach when faced with similar situations in the future.

I also encourage them to pray about it. If it is something big then we need to take the time to pray and let God lead us. I know sometimes we must make quick decisions, and, in those times, I’d say take a quick minute to think about it and do what you feel like you should do. I would refrain from going solely of emotions though.

Deciding based on our emotions can cloud our judgement and impede our ability to think clearly. However, when we allow the Lord to lead us, we become more receptive to clearer thoughts, enabling us to make better decisions.

Seeking guidance from God through prayer can help us focus our thoughts on Him in every aspect of our lives.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.

When we let the Lord lead our hearts, He will provide the understanding needed in that moment. Be patient and don’t let your emotions take over. God knows you; He understands what is needed and when.

There is a balance needed when making decisions and I think when we look to the Lord for guidance or answers, He can give us that balance needed.
