In Tune

If you’ve ever heard an instrument that’s out of tune, you know it right away. It doesn’t matter how talented the musician is — when something’s off, you can feel it.
The same is true in our spiritual lives. When we’re not in tune with God, things start to sound off inside us — our peace fades, our patience runs thin, and our joy feels flat.
Isaiah 50:4 says, “Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.” That’s what it means to live in tune — to start each day listening for God’s voice, letting Him shape your thoughts and your responses before the world does.
Being in tune isn’t about perfection. It’s about connection. It’s choosing to pause long enough to say, “Lord, help me hear You clearly today.”
Because when your heart stays tuned to His, even the noise of life can’t drown out His melody of peace.
I took piano lessons and also voice lessons when I was younger, and I hated practicing, so I didn’t do it as much as I should have.
Now, of course, as an adult, I see how foolish that was. If I had just practiced, I might be better at playing the piano and also better able to read music.
The thing is, I do sing and I can still play the piano a little, and I know that if I just started practicing again, then I could pick up the piano playing pretty quickly and be able to play it well.
When we follow the Lord, we can find that we may not have the time or the desire to put in the work that is needed, so we just don’t. With that, we don’t grow in our knowledge and our ability to hear Him and follow Him more clearly.
Sometimes it is better to make time for the things we know we need to do so that we can grow and not stay stagnant.
I don’t know about y’all, but I have always heard how it is better to wake up and spend time with the Lord first thing in the morning.
I’ve personally spent time with God during many parts of the day, so I think it all depends on your preference. I have eventually landed on morning time in the Word, but that is because everyone is still asleep.
But no matter what you choose, you need to do something in order to stay in tune and align with the Lord.
Learning to set holy habits helps us to move forward with the knowledge that even though we make mistakes, we will still be in God’s will because we decided to set into practice spending time with Him.
I have woken up in a mood some days, and I do what I can to get out of that mood. I have tried just being quiet, I’ve tried keeping to myself, and I have even tried reading the Bible, thinking that if I at least do that, I’ll be better. I’ve done my best to get attuned to what God has for me, but it just seemed like a struggle.
What I have actually found is that for me, nothing works better than sitting alone somewhere with the Lord, asking Him to help me. Though it is hard to quiet my mind, there is nothing like sitting and focusing on the Lord.
All those other things are great and help me not to be moody toward others for the most part, but to sit and talk with God tunes my heart to what He has for me.
Being in tune with God takes practice — just like tuning an instrument.
Isaiah 50:4 (NLT): “The Sovereign Lord has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.”
You don’t tune once and stay in tune forever. Life, stress, distractions — they all have a way of pulling us out of alignment. That’s why Isaiah says, “morning by morning.”
Every day is another opportunity to let God realign your heart.
Maybe that means starting your day with quiet prayer before the noise begins. Or pausing during the day to ask, “Lord, am I responding in a way that honors You?”
When you do that, you’ll start to notice something — your reactions soften, your perspective widens, and your peace deepens.
God doesn’t just want to speak to you; He wants to stay in rhythm with you.
And when your spirit is tuned to His, your words, your choices, and even your thoughts begin to carry His tone of grace.
Have you ever heard an orchestra warm up?
There is one instrument, usually an oboe player, who starts with one note, and all the others playing in that orchestra have to tune to that note. It is a very cool-sounding process, and also, if that happens, you know the music playing is about to begin.
So, you see, there is one who sets the tone, and the others follow so that they can all play in tune together and make beautiful music.
When we listen to the Lord, we hear the tone He is setting. We are then able to tune ourselves to that and follow Him more clearly because we are now in tune with Him. With that, we are able to hear and see beautiful things through what He is doing.
Morning by morning, God’s mercies are new, and we are also able to wake up each day and align ourselves with the Lord.
God is so gracious in letting us start anew every day. He doesn’t have to do that, but He does because He wants us to have every opportunity to walk with Him and draw close to Him. He knows all about who we are and our humanness, and because of that, He gives us grace and mercy.
As we draw closer to Him, we become attuned to what He has for us and how we can also walk out giving others grace and mercy every day as well.
Wake up every day, prayerfully thanking the Lord for what He provides both for us and through us. This will help us to stay aligned and in tune with our purpose.
It’s easy to drift out of tune when life gets loud.
The opinions of others, the pull of busyness, even our own emotions — they can all throw us off key. But the good news is, God never stops calling us back to His frequency.
He still whispers wisdom.
He still guides with peace.
He still nudges our hearts when something’s not right.
Sometimes being in tune means saying no when everything in you wants to say yes.
Sometimes it means waiting instead of rushing.
Sometimes it means speaking truth when silence would be easier.
That’s how you know you’re walking in step with Him — your choices start to sound like His character.
And that’s when your life begins to play a song the world needs to hear.
Isaiah 50:4 (NLT): “The Sovereign Lord has given me His words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will.”
When learning to play an instrument, you have to not only learn about it and how to play it — you also have to practice.
It is in the practice where you will see change.
The same goes for our walk with God. We can do all the things and learn all the things, but if we don’t put in the daily measure of taking in His Word, talking with Him, and asking Him for guidance, then we can miss out.
Just as you practice an instrument, you need to put into practice meeting with the Lord.
This helps us to stay aligned and in tune with God. This also helps us to block out the noise of the world and hear God’s voice more clearly.
Staying in tune with God starts with setting good holy habits and also healthy boundaries.
With these, we are better able to set our schedule and let Him guide it. With these, we can cut out things that are not necessary. When we do these things, we are better able to focus on what God wants of us, for us, and how we can help others as well.
Life can become so cluttered, and there will be times that you have to assess and adjust so that you can realign yourself with the Lord.
Always ask the Lord what you should keep and let go of. This helps us to start and keep those habits and boundaries, and with that, our focus on the Lord is less likely to waver.
So, take a moment to tune your heart to the right frequency.
Isaiah 50:4 reminds us that God speaks morning by morning — not just on Sundays, not just when life falls apart, but every single day.
When you’re in tune with Him, you’ll recognize His guidance in small things, His peace in uncertain moments, and His joy in the middle of ordinary days.
Stay close to the One who wrote your song.
Let His Spirit set the rhythm.
And let your life stay in harmony with His heart.
Because when you’re in tune with God, everything else finds its place.
