Quote – “Happy is the one who learns to wait as he prays and never loses his patience, for God’s time is the best time.
Psalm 27:14 – “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”
Reading about Noah and how they had to wait in the boat for the water to dry up and they could see land. In Genesis 8:13-17 it says, “Noah was now 601 years old. On the first day of the new year, ten and a half months after the flood began, the floodwaters had almost dried up from the earth. Noah lifted back the covering of the boat and saw that the surface of the ground was drying. Two more months went by, and at last, the earth was dry! Then God said to Noah, ‘Leave the boat, all of you—you and your wife, and your sons and their wives. Release all the animals—the birds, the livestock, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—so they can be fruitful and multiply throughout the earth.’”
This struck me as interesting because I know myself, my husband, and my kids would have jumped at the opportunity to get out of the boat as soon as there was a glimpse of dry ground. We wouldn’t have waited another two months. But Noah and his family did wait. They waited until God said to go, then they went.
In the waiting, we often want to jump ship as soon as possible so we can move on to what is next. Yet, sometimes even when we think it is time, it actually is not. This is why we must wait on the Lord to let us know when to move. His timing is perfect.
When we are waiting and get antsy about what we are waiting for, we can feel like it is okay to accept what is in front of us to hold us over until it is time to get what we really want or need.
The enemy will give you what you want or think you want, but then will take that away or it won’t last. With God, though you may need to work or just learn to wait for what He has for you because what He has for you will last. It’s like saving money for what you really want instead of buying something that will fulfill the moment. What you buy in the moment may not last, but what you save for will last, and you will take care of it because it’s what you worked for and what you had been waiting for.
Psalm 57:2 says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.”
God has a purpose and a plan; we just need to wait on Him.
God is the only one who can truly fulfill what we need. He is our provider. So, don’t just go with what will satisfy for a moment; wait for the fulfillment of the Lord because it will last forever.
I was getting everything together for this topic and kept thinking about all who God called and how they ended up waiting in some form or another.
Abraham and Sarah waited for a son.
Joseph waited for a promotion.
Moses waited to lead the Israelites out of slavery.
Joshua waited for the Promised Land.
David waited to become king.
Elijah waited for rain.
Job waited for suffering to end.
Paul waited for release from prison.
Even when we are called by God to something specific, there will still be a time of waiting. This could be because we aren’t fully ready, and God needs to prepare us, or it could be that what we are called to isn’t ready, so God has to get that ready. God is always moving and working so that we can work for His good and His glory.
