In His Image

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Bedhead, maybe a wrinkle or two, and a to-do list behind your eyes? It’s easy to focus on flaws. But what if we paused this morning and remembered something deeper?

You are made in the image of God.

Not just parts of you—all of you. Your creativity, your compassion, your strength, your sensitivity, even your sense of humor—it all reflects something of the One who made you.

As we start today, let's trade self-criticism for truth. You were created with care, purpose, and beauty—in His image.

Have you ever felt like you're not enough? Not smart enough, not attractive enough, not spiritual enough? That’s not the voice of God. He formed you with His own hands. He breathed life into you. You bear His image.

Genesis 1:27 (NLT) "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

You weren’t mass-produced—you were handcrafted in the likeness of God.

In the reality of life, it seems that at some point everyone is trying to be like someone else but themselves. One thing we cannot remove is the attributes we get from our parents. Just like kids who resemble their parents, we resemble our heavenly Father.

It’s hard to grasp from time to time, but you don’t have to become valuable—you already are.

God's image isn't about appearance—it’s about our spirit, heart, and purpose.

We reflect God when we show kindness, pursue truth, or create beauty.

The world tells us we need to change, fix, upgrade. But God’s Word tells us we’re already treasured.

You’re not “too much” or “not enough.” You’re His.

Speak one truth about yourself today based on who God says you are.

What lie about yourself do you need to stop believing today?

Being made in His image means we’re made for relationships—just like He is.

God is relational—God exists in relationship, particularly within the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is not separate from the everyday things in this world. He is deeply active and involved.

We’re created to love and be loved. We were created to have a connection with God and with others.

In that, we stay connected with God by having daily time with Him—in reading the Word, in worship, and in prayer. We stay connected with those near us the same way: spending time together and communicating.

If we believe we’re made in God’s image, that means everyone is. The person in line in front of you at the grocery store, your neighbor, and even your co-workers or classmates—every person carries the fingerprint of God.

Genesis 1:27 (NLT) "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Every human being has worth because of who made them.

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) – “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

A Christian author said this: “Discontentment is one of the big giants we must conquer if we ever hope to enjoy life… we may not have all we would like to have, but we certainly have more than some people. No matter how you think you look, there is somebody who would love to look like you. No matter how old you are, there is someone who would love to be as young as you… Love yourself and love your life; it’s the only one you have.”

Imagine how different our world would look if we treated each other like we were interacting with someone made by God.

Sometimes we struggle to love beyond differences.

We may not agree with everyone—but we can still see them with dignity and with love.

Seeing the image of God in someone changes how we respond, even when we disagree. It’s how we are able to live life agreeing to disagree and not let it affect the love and respect we have for each other.

If there are some you struggle to see through God’s perspective, pray and ask God to change your heart toward them and help you see them through His loving eyes.

People need to be reminded of their worth. Children also need to know their worth, and they need to know how to treat others.

Today’s a great day to speak encouragement to someone who may have forgotten their value—and to teach our kids that they, and everyone else, are made in God’s image. This helps us and them learn to guard their confidence and their kindness.

Encourage someone today—send a text or call them and just let them know they are loved. Ask your kids if they know they are special because they are created in God’s image, and remind all that you can that God created them for a purpose.

Knowing you’re made in God’s image isn’t just a feel-good truth—it’s a calling, a daily invitation to reflect God’s love, patience, grace, and strength in how we live, work, and love.

Genesis 1:27 (NLT) "So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

We reflect God when we forgive, show mercy, create beauty, or fight for justice.

A kind act, a creative project, or standing up for someone—these things mirror God's character.

Your life preaches—whether or not you say a word.

Being made in His image doesn’t mean we’re perfect—it means we’re being shaped daily.

God’s still forming us. Let Him continue to chisel away fear, pride, and insecurity.

God didn’t make a copy—He made you. Being made in His image is also about being His representative. We can get so tripped up nowadays because we have digital devices that almost speak louder than anything. With that said, we should unfollow what makes us feel “less than” and focus on who we’re becoming. We are God’s representatives, and we shouldn’t allow anything to dim that.

Where and how is God shaping you right now to better reflect Him?

You are not random. You are not average. You are not invisible. You were made by a loving God, in His image, on purpose. So, walk confidently today—not in arrogance, but in truth.

And don’t forget—every person you meet today was made by Him too.

You were made in God’s image—to reflect His heart, reveal His character, and carry His light into the world.
