Let me ask you: Have you ever felt like you were juggling too much and dropping everything at once? Or maybe one area of your life is thriving, but another feels like it’s falling apart. If so, you’re not alone. Today, we’re talking about imbalance—what it looks like, how it affects us, and most importantly, how we can find harmony in the chaos.
Proverbs 16:11 says, “Honest scales and balances belong to the Lord; all the weights in the bag are of his making.” That means all things are God’s, and He is the standard by which we should measure our lives. When we feel imbalanced, we can use God’s principles and character as our guide to find the balance we need.
Did you know God designed us to live with balance? Even at the very beginning of creation, we see this. God worked for six days and rested on the seventh. Rest was part of the plan from the start!
Jesus also modeled balance during His ministry. In Mark 6:31, He says to His disciples, “Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile.” Even though there was so much work to be done, Jesus prioritized time to recharge and connect with the Father.
If you feel like you’re always running on empty or feeling a little drab lately, try setting aside intentional time to rest and refocus. Whether it’s a daily quiet time with God, a weekly Sabbath, or simply stepping away from distractions for a bit, rest is a gift we shouldn’t overlook.
For me, it’s just as much about mindset as it is about being intentional. I can spend time with the Lord, but if my heart and mind aren’t postured toward Him, it feels like I’m just going through the motions. So, as part of my intentionality, I make sure my mind and heart are ready to sit with the Lord.
Restoring balance isn’t just about managing our time—it’s about aligning our priorities with God’s. When we try to handle everything on our own, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But when we invite God into the process, He helps us carry the load and brings clarity to what really matters.
I think it’s also about how we go through life day to day without thinking about God. Just being intentional about keeping our thoughts on Him can change how we approach everything. We need to align our whole lives with God.
Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us of this: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” When we surrender our imbalances to God, He gives us the strength and wisdom to handle them.
Remember, you don’t have to fix everything all at once. Start small. Pray over your schedule, your relationships, and your commitments, and ask God to guide you toward balance. He’s faithful, and He cares about every detail of your life. You’ll also find yourself moving through life with more ease because He is at the center and balances everything out.
Living in balance means being intentional, focusing on what matters most, and trusting God to handle the rest. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.” This scripture teaches us how to balance by giving our concerns to God and trusting Him with our time and priorities. That’s when we experience peace, even in the midst of chaos.
This week, try to identify one area of imbalance and take steps to address it. Maybe it’s saying no to something, carving out time for prayer, or spending quality time with loved ones. Small changes can lead to big results. Remember, balance isn’t something you achieve overnight, but with God’s help, it’s something we can work toward every day. God doesn’t just care about the big picture—He cares about the day-to-day details, too. When we invite Him into our lives, He helps us navigate the imbalances and find harmony.
I want to leave you with this thought: Balance isn’t about doing it all—it’s about doing what God calls you to do and trusting Him with the rest. When we align our lives with His priorities, we find peace, purpose, and joy.
