Hopeful Anticipation

Hopeful Anticipation

Hopeful anticipation — a seed of hope — something we are certain will happen because of faith. We come to know that this hope is true when we grow closer to God and when we trust in Him with all that we are.

There is hopeful anticipation because we have a Father who loves us, knows us, and is always with us. We also have a little book called the Bible to help back up God’s promises, and through the history given, we know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He’s 100% reliable.

We are hopefully anticipating the return of Jesus, and as we live life and think on this hope often, it’s what keeps us going and moving forward in our relationship with Christ and what drives us to keep growing spiritually.

There are many Scriptures that speak about hope, and as we read through the Psalms and come across Psalm 62:1–2, there is so much hope built into these words. It says, “I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.”

This is a declaration, and it truly lives up to it when David boldly says, “I will never be shaken.” That’s powerful — to have that unshakable faith and hope in God. Imagine it… Is your hope and faith in the Lord that strong, where you could declare without a doubt that you will not be shaken because God is your rock, fortress, and salvation? Let’s sit in that and really imagine that kind of boldness and absolute unwavering in our relationship with the Lord.

God, help me not to waver and to boldly live life knowing that with You, I will never be shaken.

As we continue on with David’s story and read through 1 and 2 Samuel and the Psalms, we know what David endured throughout his life. Even though he was called to be king, he spent many years suffering before that happened. We find hope because of his devotion to God and his faithfulness in believing what God said was true.

When life is loud and chasing us down, we need to wait quietly before the Lord, pray, and anticipate the victory that comes from Him. With this, we know we are on a firm foundation — He is our rock, He saves us, and with His strength and protection, we will not be shaken.

Hopeful anticipation in the Lord will never fail us. It gives us the strength we need to persevere and keep moving forward because of our faith in Him.

As it says in the Gospels, the mustard seed is the smallest of seeds but grows into the largest of trees — such is our hope and faith when we truly believe in the Lord.

We need only faith as small as a mustard seed to tell something to move, and it will move. When we pray bold prayers, asking the Lord for something, we are hopeful that He will move — and no matter the outcome, we trust that His will has been done.

We anticipate His response, knowing full well that the Lord’s will is done.

I also think about Noah. The man took 120 years to build a boat with no way to steer it, no known time frame for how long he and his family would be inside, and on top of that, he was locked in with wild animals. But this did not deter him from his hope in a God who told him he would be saved because of his faithfulness. God’s will was done, just as He promised.

Psalm 62:5–8 says, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.”

Hope in the Lord — it’s what we need as we anticipate all that He has said He will do and also so we can live an unshakable life.
