Honoring the Lord

"Honoring God is not something we do as Christians out of a sense of duty or to gain His favor. Rather, it is a daily expression of recognition, respect, and gratitude towards the One who loved us when we were sinners and His enemy."

The faith journey that we undertake as new creations in Christ leads us into a greater experience of God’s love, a deeper understanding of His character, and more knowledge of His blessings and miracles, which become more apparent the longer we walk with Him.

Jesus commands us to honor God with both our lips and our hearts. We also need to honor Him in all our attitudes, affections, and actions.

John 3:30 says, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”

We are not to honor God just in the big things but also in everyday things. We want others to see Jesus in us, and the best way to do that is by living out this life He’s given us and honoring Him with all we have, do, and speak. All we do and say should show others that we follow Christ.

One way we honor God is by taking care of one another. Caring for others is being a servant. Jesus said we should serve one another. This is how we walk out what Jesus taught in the New Testament, and in doing so, we honor that teaching.

Romans 12:10-13 says, “Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”

Honoring one another shows Jesus to others, being His hands and feet here on Earth.

To honor God means, first and foremost, that you recognize Him as the highest authority. He is the One who created the universe, and nothing and no one can contend with His greatness and might.

Matthew 22:37-38 says, Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”

Honoring God begins in our hearts. It is a conscious decision we make to put Him first in our lives.

"Honoring God is not something we do as Christians out of a sense of duty or to gain His favor. Rather, it is a daily expression of recognition, respect, and gratitude towards the One who loved us when we were sinners and His enemy."

This last part is the same quote from the beginning and it is is worth repeating as it helps us to start our days and set the tone for keeping God first. It encourages us to recognize and honor who God is in our lives. He is our Lord and Savior.
