God Stoops Down

God Stoops Down

Now, that may sound like a strange image at first—I mean, God stooping?

But stick with me!

Think of a parent kneeling down to tie their child’s shoe, or someone bending low to pick up something precious. That’s how God meets us. He doesn’t yell from the clouds—He leans in. He kneels beside us in the mess, the middle, and even the mundane. So, let’s dive into how that truth can change how we live today!

Psalm 18:35 (NLT) “You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.”

We’re starting where we all tend to land sometimes—in the middle of a mess. Dirty dishes, missed deadlines, family drama, or a heart full of questions just trying to figure everything out—God isn’t scared of any of it. He stoops down right into our chaos with love.

Remember when you were a kid and someone bent down to tie your shoe? That’s the image of God in Psalm 18. He stoops down to help—not because He has to, but because He loves to. He lifts us when we trip over life’s laces. Ever had a moment where you just felt God gently help you up? You know, that peace-beyond-understanding kind of moment? God is so good.

God doesn’t wait until you’ve cleaned up your act or gotten all your ducks in a row. (Let’s be honest—when are ducks ever really in a row?) He comes to you where you are. That’s what grace looks like—stooping down into the reality of who we are, not who we pretend to be.

I’ve heard many stories—well, testimonies—of how God has been felt in the darkest of moments. And that’s so true because oftentimes it’s when we have nothing else to give that we’re most open to hearing from the Lord clearly. That’s when we’re actively seeking Him.

We shouldn’t wait until we’re in darkness to feel or seek God so deeply, but that is a reality we often face.

From flat tires to failed job interviews, from dropping food on yourself to all the silly mistakes—God shows up. Let’s laugh a little at some of the ways He’s saved us from ourselves, and be reminded that His willingness to stoop down often shows up in the most ordinary places.

As I tried to pinpoint a specific time in my life when God stooped down, I realized He’s done it over and over again. Every time He gave me the time and attention I needed to listen, learn, and grow. Isn’t that amazing? God stoops down all the time to take care of His children—like a loving Father.

Now we’re diving into the fact that God isn’t just above us—He is with us. Immanuel means “God with us,” and that nearness is a gift that changes how we walk through our days.

Whether you’re sitting in traffic or cleaning sticky counters, God is present. He doesn’t need a special prayer closet to show up. Let’s talk about how to notice His presence in our everyday routines—even in the boring parts.

Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. That was something ordinary—and yet not so ordinary. In Bible times, people needed to wash their feet often because it was dusty and they walked everywhere. So for Jesus to do that? That shows us what kind of King He is. The kind who stoops to serve. The kind who shows us that love often looks like getting down on the floor with someone, instead of sitting on a throne above them.

I’ve seen many stories and photos of kids having a hard time, and a parent or teacher—or even a stranger—takes the time to sit with them and help. That heart of compassion and empathy is the kind of heart Jesus has for us, too. So yes, He meets us in everything we do—even the ordinary.

God doesn’t yell advice from the top of a mountain. This makes me think of trying to yell something to my kids in their rooms, and they just keep saying, “What?” Thank goodness God isn’t trying to shout directions from afar. He comes and sits beside us in our pain.

Whether it’s heartbreak, disappointment, or loss—His nearness is our comfort.

Let’s be honest though—sometimes we don’t feel God at all. But feelings aren’t the same as facts. Just because we can’t see Him stooping down doesn’t mean He’s not there.

We’ve seen how God meets us in the mess and walks with us through the ordinary. Now let’s talk about what happens after He stoops—He lifts. He raises us up, encourages our hearts, and gives us strength we didn’t think we had.

He doesn’t just come down, pat our heads, and say, “There, there.” He stays with us and carries us through.

Sometimes, God doesn’t just stoop down—He carries us. You know those seasons where you look back and think, “There’s no way I made it through that on my own”? That’s because you didn’t. Let’s celebrate those “carried by grace” seasons.

Have you ever been driving and suddenly realized you’re not sure how you got where you are—but you made it safely? Sure, that’s a little autopilot, but I think it can feel like that when God stoops down. Suddenly, we’ve made it through a tough season and aren’t even sure how—but we know God must have been driving the vehicle for us.

God stoops to reset your heart, your plans, and even your day. He’s not rolling His eyes at your 17th attempt to get it right. Let’s talk about the beauty of starting again—with God kneeling right beside us.

When God stoops, He doesn’t just leave us where we are—He builds us up. We rise, not in our own strength, but in His. Let’s look at how His grace transforms our weakness into strength.

So many times, we go through life struggling, and yet somehow we’re still able to do everyday things. I think that’s the strength God gives us.

Honestly, there have been times I just wanted to lay down and not get back up. But then there’s this resilience that takes over—and I’m able to accomplish things. God is with us.

God stoops to serve—so we should, too. What if today, you bent down to help someone else? Held a door, sent an encouraging word, or just listened? Let’s take the love we’ve received and pass it on.

From the messy to the mundane, God is in it all. He’s not distant or disengaged—He stoops down. And because of that, we rise. So today, let His nearness strengthen you. Remember, you don’t have to climb your way to Him—He’s already here, bending low with love.
