Today, we’re talking about promises—God’s unshakable promises to us and how we can live in the assurance of His faithfulness. Unlike the world’s fleeting words, God’s promises are eternal, trustworthy, and life-giving. Let’s dive into His Word to uncover the hope, peace, and joy found in His promises.
2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’ And through Christ, our ‘Amen’ (which means ‘Yes’) ascends to God for His glory.”
In our house, we don’t make promises, and we have made it a point to teach our kids not to do so either. The reason is that if you promise something and can’t follow through, it’s akin to lying. Sure, different factors may prevent you from following through, but the result is the same—you’ve tarnished your character a bit. So, we make it a point to never promise anything.
Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?”
We are human and unable to follow through as God does, so it is better not to make promises. But we know that God’s Word and promises are true, and those are the ones we can hold on to because God’s promises are unchanging and reliable.
God’s promises bring hope even in the darkest times because His Word is a solid foundation when life feels uncertain.
Have y’all ever seen those ultrasonic cleaners? You can put almost anything in them, and the vibrations clean it and make it brand new. When we ask Jesus to be our Savior, He literally cleanses us in a way we’ve never been cleansed before, and we become brand new. That promise He made long ago comes to fruition every time a soul is saved.
So, when you feel discouraged, reflect on the promise of hope and unfailing love you sought when you went to the Lord for forgiveness. Also, consider the promises God has fulfilled throughout your life journey.
Trusting in God’s promises requires faith, and that faith allows us to live confidently, even when we cannot yet see the outcome.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”
I’m a reformed people-pleaser, meaning I used to do things and say yes to show my faithfulness and loyalty to others. It was an exhausting way to live—always “on.” Thankfully, God helped me see that my focus shouldn’t be on pleasing people. He showed me that my works aren’t the only thing that makes a difference; my faith in Him makes all the difference.
Pray for faith to trust in the promises of God. What promise of God are you trusting Him to fulfill in your life right now?
God promises to meet our needs, not always our wants.
Philippians 4:19 says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Trusting His provision brings freedom from worry.
Three ways God has recently provided for me are:
To calm some significant anxiety I was having. I couldn’t shake it, and though I prayed and asked for peace, the anxiety only seemed to grow. Speaking the truth and promises from the Bible specifically about anxiety finally brought calm to my mind.
To address my doubts. I’ve always struggled with confidence. While it’s better than it used to be, I still need help overcoming this. The Lord has provided truth for me through music, scripture, and others, showing me that I am exactly where He wants me to be.
To meet our family’s needs countless times. I’m reminded of His faithfulness all the time.
I challenge you to write down three ways God has provided for you and reminded you of His faithfulness.
God’s peace sustains us through life’s storms.
John 14:27 says, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
God promises peace that surpasses understanding.
When I was a senior in high school, my grandfather became very ill, and his outlook wasn’t good. Normally, I’d have been overwhelmed with worry and anxiety. But during that time, I had such great peace. God’s peace filled my heart.
When you feel worry or anxiety rising, pause and pray. Ask God for His peace that surpasses all understanding to fill your heart and mind. Stand on that promise and let God show you His love and faithfulness.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
God’s strength empowers us when we feel weak. His promises remind us that we don’t have to rely on our own power.
One day last year, I felt weak and overwhelmed. I walked around the KJIC property, soaking in God’s creation and repeating this scripture in prayer. For 30 minutes, I declared that God is my strength and that He walks with me. By the end, I knew I would be okay.
Memorizing scripture allows us to carry God’s promises everywhere. What verse do you cry out to God with, and how does it transform you after praying and believing it?
Sharing God’s promises with others encourages them in their faith journey.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”
If God is prompting you to reach out to someone today, do it. Share a promise from scripture that will encourage them and remind them of God’s love.
God’s promises are for future generations. Teaching our children about His promises helps them grow in faith.
Psalm 103:17 says, “But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear Him. His salvation extends to the children’s children.”
When we face tough times, my husband and I are open with our kids about what’s happening and how we trust God to provide. We want them to see the blessings, just as we do. Sharing these real-life experiences helps them in their faith journeys too.
Share the promises of God with your children and other young people. Intentionally pass down the knowledge of God’s faithfulness.
Let’s remember God’s promises. There is power, provision, and peace found in His promises, and it’s important to share and live them out.
God’s promises are an anchor for our souls, a light in the darkness, and a source of unwavering hope. Hold on to them, live by them, and share them with others. His promises are true, and He will never fail.
God’s promises are not only words to believe but truths to live by.
Go into today clinging to one of God’s promises, and share it with someone else.
