So often, the world tries to define us by our past, our failures, or our circumstances. Yet God speaks truth over us. Let’s remember that our identity is rooted in who He says we are: chosen, loved, forgiven, and purposed.
In a world that tells us we’re not good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough, it’s essential to tune into God’s voice and let Him define who we are.
Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Isn’t that amazing? You are not a mistake. You are a masterpiece, created with purpose and filled with worth because of who He says you are.
This morning, we’ll explore what it means to live in the truth of our identity in Christ. We’ll dive into who God says we are, how to silence the lies of the world, and how to walk confidently in the identity He’s given us. Let’s spend this time rediscovering who we really are.
1 Peter 2:9 reminds us: “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
You are chosen by God—not by accident, but with intention and love.
Believers are God’s possession in a unique, personal, and sacrificial way. We inherit God’s abundant and eternal life. The Holy Spirit indwells in us, nurturing our faith, growing us in grace, and guiding us in His ways. God calls us to belong to Him and serve His purposes in the world. We are His special people, and He takes special care of us.
What does it mean to you to know you are chosen?
For me, I don’t often think about it. When I do, I’m shocked. We tend to view ourselves through the lens of what others have said—good and bad. Sometimes, the negative voices drown out the positive. That’s why I feel overwhelmed when I remember that God chooses me. It fills me with gratitude to know I’m loved and chosen by someone so great.
You’re not forgotten or overlooked. You are chosen by the Creator of the universe.
Romans 8:38-39 says: “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
God’s love is unshakable and unconditional.
Mistakes happen, and guilt can make us believe we’re defined by our failures. But Scripture tells us otherwise. Our circumstances and mistakes don’t define us—God’s love does.
I know this truth, but sometimes it’s hard to grasp. We’re often so down on ourselves that connecting God’s love to our messy reality feels impossible. But God’s love never changes. He pursues us relentlessly, wanting to show us His love.
Rest assured: God loves you. Let His love be the foundation of who you are.
Too often, guilt, shame, and past mistakes weigh us down. But 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
In Christ, we are made new—our past no longer defines us. To walk in freedom and forgiveness, we must prioritize daily prayer, surrender, and gratitude.
When God forgives us, there’s still work to be done. Staying connected to Him helps us forgive ourselves and embrace transformation. Think about one part of your old life that God has redeemed. Have you thanked Him for it?
John 8:36 says: “So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.”
True freedom comes from Christ—freedom from sin, shame, and fear.
God didn’t save us to sit on the sidelines. He has a purpose for each of our lives and has given us the Holy Spirit to equip us.
Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
I’ve experienced this firsthand. After stepping away from a beloved job to care for my mom, I returned to the same workplace months later. God had opened that door. But after six months, He called me elsewhere—leading me to my current role at the radio station. That transition wasn’t easy, but I now see how God’s plans are always for our good.
Take a step toward what God has for you today. His plans are good—trust Him.
Philippians 4:13 reminds us: “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”
When fear and doubt arise, remember God’s faithfulness. He is our rock and salvation, giving us the strength to overcome.
Let’s carry this truth with us: You are who He says you are. You’re not defined by your past, failures, or fears. You are chosen, loved, forgiven, free, purposed, and empowered.
Start your day with the Lord, and you’ll walk through it confidently, knowing God is with you. You are His masterpiece, created with purpose and filled with His Spirit.
