God Fills the Gaps

I’m talking about those moments when we feel like we’re coming up short—you know, the “I don’t have what it takes” kind of days. Maybe you forgot the school project, burned the dinner, or just feel worn out emotionally. The good news? God is the ultimate gap-filler. His grace picks up where we leave off.

So, let’s talk about how God steps in when we feel like we’re falling apart.

Today’s scripture is 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT): “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

Let’s recognize the gaps in our lives—not to shame ourselves, but to understand where God’s grace shines the brightest.

Multiple times, I’ve shown up to a potluck with store-bought cookies because I totally forgot I was supposed to bake something. Or I’ve bought a birthday gift on the way to the party. Talk about a gap! But life is full of those moments where we feel like we’ve dropped the ball.

Whether it’s not enough time, money, patience, or talent—we all feel it. We feel it deeply. But what if those feelings are invitations for God to show up and show off?

What if instead of focusing on our lack, we focused on His showing up? His power isn’t limited by our limitations. God still shows up. In our weakness, He is strong.

I’ve read so many stories from parents who’ve said, “I never feel like I’m doing enough for my kids. But every time I think I’m failing, God gives me just enough strength to make it through.” That’s what grace looks like.

We will always feel like we’re striving for more than we can give—especially if we’re trying to accomplish it on our own. The struggle will feel strong when we aren’t relying on God. But when we allow Him in and let Him lead, He helps us see that what we have to offer is enough. He is the One who fills the gaps.

Don’t let the gaps make you feel guilty. Let them be the place where you lean on God.

Sometimes we let the guilt of not doing well or not feeling equipped guide us more than our faith.

We put the pressure of “having it all together” on ourselves—and it weighs us down. But God’s not looking for perfection. He’s looking for a heart that reaches for Him. He wants to show you His love, guide you, and equip you. He’s looking for faith.

Ever seen a toddler try to step down a stair or over a crack in the sidewalk? They crouch down, get on all fours, and approach it like it’s the Grand Canyon. To us, it’s a tiny gap. But for them, it’s a big deal—until they do it once, and then it’s no big deal anymore.

Or how about this—have you ever been in a storm and felt weirdly calm? That’s the kind of peace only God can give. It doesn’t make sense, but it makes a difference.

We’ve seen where the gaps are—now let’s talk about how God fills them. Whether it’s through people, peace, provision, or perspective—He always shows up.

God sees you. He knows your needs.

We often get caught up in our daily grind and let that shape how we treat others, how we think, and how we react. We can let one bad thing rule our entire day instead of letting God rule our hearts.

But sometimes, God wants to get your attention. And He’ll use other people to do it.

God loves using people to fill gaps—a text from a friend, an unexpected meal on your doorstep, someone ahead of you paying for your things, or just a kind cashier when your day’s falling apart. He’s sneaky like that.

And even if we don’t notice it right away, it just shows us that no matter where we are—God is still working behind the scenes, filling the gaps.

Take a look today—maybe God’s already filling your gaps, and you just haven’t noticed yet.

All through Scripture, God used people to stand in the gap. Moses for the Israelites. Jonah for Nineveh. Paul for the Gentiles. And Jesus—for all of us.

Today’s scripture, once again, is 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT): “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

God will guide and provide in the moments you need it. Be on the lookout for the helpers, the hope, and the holy interruptions—because they just might be God’s doing.

It’s one thing to know God fills the gaps. It’s another to trust Him with them. Let’s talk about how we live that out daily.

Sometimes the gap is just energy. Or motivation. Or the right words. Trust that God can show up even when all you’ve got is fumes and coffee.

Remember the widow and her oil? We talked about recently. God didn’t overflow her jars before she needed them—He gave her just enough. That’s how He works sometimes. Not abundance, but sufficiency.

I read an article where the writer said something beautiful about God’s sufficiency: “I go to my local church, and as I hear biblical teaching and share life with other believers, I realize I’m not the only one with gaps in my faith. The more these go-to places become my dwelling places, the gaps begin to close. I reach for reassurance or perseverance—and I find God’s grace and truth.”

Surrounding ourselves with God’s Word and other believers reminds us that we’re not alone. We begin to see God working in all kinds of ways.

Who are you praying for today to help fill the gaps in their faith?

Sometimes we feel like we have to have it all together all the time. It’s okay to not have it all together. We’re not supposed to. What a relief, right?

If we did have it all together, we wouldn’t need God—or anyone else for that matter. But thankfully, God’s not asking for your résumé. He’s asking for your willingness.

You can always come to God as you are—and let Him make the changes. He knows who you are and what you need.

Wherever you feel empty or like you are lacking, trust that God’s already at work. He’s not distant. He’s detailed. He sees the gaps, and He’s more than ready to fill them with grace, joy, and peace.

Be patient and continue praying for the provision you’re seeking.

God’s not looking for perfect people. He’s looking for present ones. Show up with your gaps, your doubts, your mess—and let Him meet you there.

“My power works best in weakness.” And that’s the most freeing news ever.
