We all face moments when we feel stuck, discouraged, or like things will never improve. But God is in the business of transforming lives, renewing minds, and changing circumstances.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we read, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” God doesn’t just patch things up—He makes them new. Today, we’ll explore how God can bring about change in our lives.
One of the most powerful ways God changes things is by transforming our hearts. When we give our lives to Him, He works from the inside out, shaping us into who He created us to be. Ezekiel 36:26 says, “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.”
God can take our pain, our fears, and even our pride, and replace them with love, peace, and humility. This isn’t just behavior modification, it’s true transformation. When we allow Him to change our hearts, our perspectives shift, our reactions soften, and we start seeing others with compassion.
Often times I wouldn’t do things because of fear. Fear of what others would think, fear of disappointment, and fear of failure were really strong reasons for why I wouldn’t take the step forward to do something. But through God there has been change. Sure, I still hesitate but I have learned that it is ok, and I will make it through no matter what the outcome and that is because He is with me.
God has really worked in my life to soften me to be willing to do what He has asked of me.
Is there an area of your heart that feels hardened or guarded? Ask God to give you a new heart and watch how He softens and transforms you from the inside out.
Another way God changes things is by moving in our circumstances. Whether it’s health, finances, relationships, or career, God is fully capable of transforming situations that feel impossible. Psalm 40:2 says, “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.”
God doesn’t always change things in the way we expect, but His timing and methods are always perfect. He can open doors, close them, and bring us peace in the waiting. When we pray and trust Him, we can expect to see His hand move in ways that surprise and bless us.
One Bible story that comes to mind when thinking about what we expect verses the changes God makes is Daniel in the lion’s den.... When Daniel was thrown in the lion’s den for following the Lord and pray, everyone expected him to die that day. But God changed things and shut the mouth of the lions. Our circumstances don't always determine the outcome because God changes things.
I also thought about this scripture in Psalm 139:23-24 and it says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”
God changes things. He sees the whole picture and that includes all of who we are.
Let’s bring one area of life where you’re seeking change before God. Pray with an open heart, asking Him to move in His way and time. Sometimes the change we need isn’t immediate, but remember that He’s always at work, even in the waiting.
God often changes things by shifting our perspective. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, He helps us see things through His lens of hope and faith. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”
As we grow up, we are taught by our parents what is right and wrong and then we go live life, and we then learn on our own what we think is right and wrong and forge our own paths. Then at some point we turn to God and ask Him to give us His perspective on things, what we know and do needs to be changed because we have now learned from God what is right and wrong. That right and wrong in our lives has changed again because of perspective. God’s perspective.
One of the biggest change God brings is in our mindset. We may still be in the same situation, but when we look at it with God’s perspective, we find strength, peace, and even gratitude. He shows us that we can face any challenge with confidence because He’s with us every step of the way.
Take a moment to pause and ask God to show you His perspective on something you’re struggling with. Ask Him to renew your mind and help you see the situation with faith rather than fear.
God is the ultimate changer. Whether it’s our hearts, circumstances, or perspectives, He’s always ready and able to transform anything we bring before Him. Philippians 1:6 says, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
No matter where you are or what you’re facing, know that God is working to bring about change in your life. It may be gradual or sudden, but every step is a part of His perfect plan. Trust Him with the process, and look for the ways He’s moving, even in the small things.
Be encouraged to invite God into every area of your life, expecting His transformative power. Keep looking for God’s work in your heart, your life, and your perspective.
