Filling your cup… We give and we give, and we can drain ourselves and not even know it. How are you filling your cup back up?
John 4:14 says, “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
I was filling up the 5-gallon jug we have for our water dispenser to bring it back to the office and as I was standing there, and water was just gushing out I thought about how we can drain ourselves before we refill ourselves. But we really should constantly be refilling ourselves by going to God and asking Him to give us the joy and peace we need.
John 4:10 says, “Jesus replied, ‘If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.’”
When we go and go, we can lose sight of what a joy it is to do what God has given us to do so therefore we need to ask God to refill us all the time.
God promises to fill you with His unfailing love and faithfulness. He is compassionate and full of mercy… He loves you.
Joel 2:13 says, “Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
I know this may seem like an odd verse when talking about being refilled...but lets look at through the word of compassion...
In the Old Testament, God is described as having compassion more than a dozen times, and in the Gospels, Jesus is said to feel compassion six times. I think we can forget this aspect of God. His compassion for His followers is great and it is important for us to remember so when we are tired and weary, we will absolutely know that we are not alone, and God is here with you always ready to fill you will His unfailing love.
We have a pond here on the property of the radio station and we often have to go out a turn on some water and refill it because it gets too low. The water seeps back into the ground so we refill it. Were as the pond on our personal property when it gets low, we wait for rain and let that refill it. We have a clay bottom, so it doesn’t lose water as fast as the other pond.
But there are 2 ways of filling here by the means something around us we can use to help refill or by waiting on rain. So, you can go to others to help fill you and that is great because community is so important. We can also go to God who is always waiting and willing to fill us.
Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
Let’s put our hope in the Lord and ask Him daily to fill our cups so we can then go and do all He asks of us without growing weary.
