Father's Day

Today, we’re talking about Father’s Day, since Sunday is the day we say, “Thanks, Dad!”

Let's celebrate dads, the granddads, the stepdads, the uncles, and the spiritual fathers who’ve made a difference in our lives. Whether your dad taught you to ride a bike, grill a burger, or never waste a good pair of socks—we’re here to honor them today.

I’ll be sharing some dad jokes in honor of all the men in my life—because they were (and still are) all jokesters! We’ll also talk about what makes dads so special.

Dad Joke #1: Why do fathers take an extra pair of socks when they go golfing?

In case they get a hole in one!

Dads aren’t perfect, but they show up, they work hard, and they teach us so much by the way they live.

Some of us were raised by amazing dads. Others found father figures in coaches, mentors, or pastors. Whoever it was for you—today’s a great day to remember the ones who stood in the gap and helped shape you.

Psalm 103:13 (NLT) — “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”

From “check the oil” to “trust God no matter what,” dads teach us the practical and the profound.

What’s something your dad or father figure taught you that’s always stuck?

There was a joke in my house about how I was my dad’s favorite son… He had three daughters, but he wanted to make sure we could handle anything on our own if we needed to. I followed him around and learned all I could. I can do a lot—and I was a daddy’s girl when I was younger. That’s how that joke began.

While no dad is perfect, the good ones give us a glimpse of our Heavenly Father—protective, loving, steady. Psalm 103:13 reminds us of that today: “The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.”

When we see the men in our lives loving, caring, and taking care of us and our children, it really opens us up to see them in the light of love.

God wants us to see Him in that same light. He is a loving, caring, compassionate Father who takes care of us.

Dad Joke #2: What do you call someone who isn’t a dad but tells dad jokes?

A faux pa!

Let’s talk about the lighter side of dads—their jokes, quirks, and wisdom that somehow always comes through… eventually.

“If you’re cold, put on a jacket.” “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “Because I said so.”

Let’s talk about those classic dad sayings we grew up hearing—and how some of us now find ourselves saying them too!

One thing my dad used to say when we wanted something was: “Want in one hand and spit in the other—let’s see which one fills up faster.” I’ve mentioned it to my kids a time or two… just to help them understand the difference between a want and a need.

So many things stick from childhood.

For many of us, our dads were the first to teach us how to pray, go to church, and live with integrity. Even if they weren’t perfect, the seeds they planted matter—and God is still using them today.

Dads are everyday heroes—working long hours, fixing things with duct tape, and grilling like they were born for it.

One thing my daughter will always remember about her dad—my husband—is this saying: “I can fix everything but people.” She firmly believes that. She’s a daddy’s girl and thinks he is the best ever.

Let’s celebrate all the father figures in our lives—their strength and sacrifice, even in the little things.

Let’s take a moment to bless the dads out there—may you feel seen, appreciated, and honored today. And if today is hard for you—because of loss, absence, or pain—know that you’re not alone, and God is near.

Thank you to all the men, past, present, and future, who have and will make an impact in every life they connect with.

Dad Joke #3: Why did the scarecrow win an award?

Because he was outstanding in his field!

Now we’re talking about legacy—the kind that matters most. The love, wisdom, and faith our dads pass on aren’t just for us—they’re for the generations after us.

Long after the fishing trips and car rides, what sticks is how dads loved us. Their faith, kindness, and even their quiet strength leave a lasting mark.

I watch as my husband leaves a legacy in our kids, and I’m thankful that God is leading him through it all.

To every dad out there wondering if you’re doing it right—your effort matters more than you know. Keep showing up. Keep praying. Keep loving your family. God is using you in big ways.

You may not see the fruits of your labor right now, but as the Bible says: “Direct or train up your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”

Walk out what God is leading you to do, and your efforts will take root.

Father’s Day isn’t joyful for everyone. If you’re grieving today—missing your dad, or wishing you had a different story—you are not forgotten.

When my dad passed away, it hit me hard. But one huge realization came: My earthly father is gone, but my Heavenly Father is always with me.

That truth changed everything for me. Let God comfort you today and fill those gaps with His perfect love.

No matter your earthly experience with dads, there’s one Father who never fails.

He’s steady.

He’s close.

And He calls you His own.

You are loved, seen, and never alone.

Dad Joke #4: What do you call a hot dog on wheels?

Fast food!

As we wrap up this Father’s Day edition, let’s take a moment to say thank you:

To the dads who love us, guide us, and point us toward Jesus.

And to our Heavenly Father—thank You for never leaving us, never giving up on us, and always walking with us.

Whether you’re celebrating today or grieving, know this:

You are loved.

Go hug your dad, send that text, or remember the good.
