Family Time

It’s that time of year when family is coming and going, so let’s talk about Family Time today.

Life gets busy, doesn’t it? Between work, school, errands, and everything in between, it’s easy to let family time slip through the cracks. But God designed families to be our support system, our first ministry, and the place where we can grow in love and faith together.

Family is one of God’s greatest blessings, but blessings need to be nurtured. Today, let’s explore why family time matters, how to make it a priority, and practical ways to strengthen those bonds.

God created the family as a place where we learn about love, forgiveness, and faith. It’s where we grow—not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally. Spending time together strengthens relationships and creates a foundation of trust and understanding.

We learn so much from our families: how to be friends, how to handle different personalities, and how to love one another through life’s ups and downs.

Joshua 24:15 says, “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” When we commit to serving God together, we create a legacy that can impact generations.

I have a painting from when my kids were younger with this verse and all our handprints on it. Every time I look at it, I pray that we’ll continue to serve the Lord as a family.

Family time isn’t just about having fun—it’s about growing together in Christ. When we make God the center of our family, our relationships flourish. Praying together, reading the Bible, and attending church as a family are simple yet powerful ways to deepen those bonds.

Let’s be honest—finding time for family isn’t always easy. Between busy schedules and endless distractions, it can feel impossible. But if we don’t prioritize family, something else will fill that space. The key is to be intentional.

Here are some tips for creating intentional family time:

Set boundaries: Limit screen time or work hours to carve out space for family.

Schedule it: Block out family time, just like you schedule meetings or appointments. My family sets aside one evening a week for intentional time together with no devices—just us. It’s been so fun and refreshing!

Be present: Put away distractions and give your full attention to your loved ones. Even small, distraction-free moments can become cherished memories.

It’s not about how much time you spend together but how intentional you are during that time.

Family time should be enjoyable and memorable! It’s not just about being together but about creating connections that strengthen your bond.

Here are some ideas:

Devotions together: Start or end the day with a short family devotional or prayer.

Outdoor adventures: Take a hike, visit a park, or enjoy a picnic.

Game night: Play board or card games for laughter and lighthearted competition.

Serve together: Volunteer as a family. Serving others deepens your bond and grows your faith.

Choose one activity and try incorporating it into your week. Let your family help plan—it’ll make the experience even more special.

Family time is one of the greatest investments we can make. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up, being present, and creating space for love, laughter, and faith to grow.

And let’s be real—family time isn’t always smooth sailing. But in those moments of forgiveness and grace, we grow stronger together.

As you go into this week with family gatherings, pray and ask God to open doors for meaningful conversations and enjoyable moments. Trust that He will bless your time together.
