Enough

Today, we’re diving into a word we all wrestle with—enough. It shows up everywhere: Am I doing enough? Do I have enough? Am I enough?
It’s such a common ache, isn’t it? Whether it’s in our jobs, our families, or even our walk with God, we’re constantly measuring ourselves against an invisible standard. But here’s the truth: God never asked us to carry the weight of “enough” on our own.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT) says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
That’s the heart of today’s show—finding rest in the God who meets every need, fills every gap, and defines our worth.
Have we done enough… That is a question that we all wonder about. That’s what we are going to talk about this hour.
We walk away from things, or we are even in the midst of things, and we just wonder if we’ve done enough.
Think about it as you head home from work—do you feel like you did enough, or do you go down a list of things that still need to get done or that you should have done?
I think in this case we are looking to feel some kind of satisfaction or at least for someone to tell us, “Job well done today,” and when we don’t have that, we question if we have done enough.
Have we done enough… As a parent, this will be a question that I ask as my kids go through their teens and into adulthood: Have we done enough to raise them to be confident, discerning, God-loving, and God-following people?
As I think about this right now, all I can think is, I hope so. The Bible tells us to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he’s older, he will not leave it. And that is what I have to believe.
When they were younger, I prayed and told God that I knew they were His, and that I knew that I taught them about God and how to have a relationship with Him. Then I have to have faith that we, as parents, have done enough and that God has His hand on them.
Have we done enough… As a church, have we done enough to disciple others and bring others to the understanding of who Christ is, what He has done for them, and how God loves them?
I think about this as I volunteer for church things, and that is great and all, but what about reaching out to others outside the church? Have we done enough?
We need to make sure that we are open to all the opportunities that God gives us, because with those we are able to reach out and help others in many different ways.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT) says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
When reading in Philippians, where our scripture for today is found, I am amazed by Paul. He basically tells the people that through all he has been through, he has learned that having community is important, but beyond that, he is so content in knowing that as long as he is obedient to the Lord, he knows that is enough.
What we have is enough… There have been people in my life who have wanted the latest and greatest thing, some who keep the same things for years and never change or upgrade, and then others somewhere in between.
I think I fall into that in-between category. I don’t need the new things, but I also know when it’s time to move on from things.
But regardless of the things, I know that I do have all that I need—a lot or a little—and I’m completely content with that.
What we have is enough… If we have love and we are able to share with others that love, I think we have enough.
Have you heard that saying that things won’t bring happiness? I’ve seen a lot of celebrities come to fame and realize that even though they received all they thought would make them happy, it didn’t. At first, they didn’t understand that, but over time they realized that things won’t bring happiness.
God provides us with exactly what we need; everything else we have is extra and comfort. But none of it will really bring us the joy and happiness that the Lord will.
So yes, as long as we have Jesus, we have enough.
Philippians 4:19 (NLT) says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
As Paul is writing to the Philippians, he was in prison, and this letter he writes to them is filled with love, hope, and joy. It really didn’t matter where he was—he knew that with God, he had enough, because God is the only one who can fill every part of who we are and what we desire.
With God, we are enough… We question who we are and if we are enough all the time. We have scripture posted up somewhere telling us who we are in Christ and that we are enough because we question it so often.
The enemy wants us to question that; he wants us to think that we need to search for other things and get what we think from other people, because then we are not focused on God and what He gives us—and that with God, we really are enough.
Remember that in our desperation to find success, happiness, and fulfillment, there is only One who can make us feel and know we are enough.
With God, we are enough… In the book of Philippians, which is where our scripture for today is found, there are five main themes: Humility, Self-Sacrifice, Unity, Christian Living, and Joy. Paul really teaches every one of these things, because he just knew that no matter what our circumstances would be—with God, we are enough, we have enough, and through His provision, we have done enough.
So, think about where you are in your walk with Christ… Do you find contentment with God? Do you know that He sees you as enough? Do you know who He says you are?
I want you to take a deep breath and let this sink in: you don’t have to earn “enough.” You don’t have to chase it in your achievements, your bank account, or even your spiritual performance. God has already called you His own, and that makes you fully enough in Him.
When you feel like you’re falling short, remember Philippians 4:19—His supply doesn’t run out. He’s not measuring you by the world’s shifting standards but by His unchanging love.
So, as you step into the rest of your day, release your striving. Trust that the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills is more than able to provide. Enough isn’t something you find—it’s Someone you know. And His name is Jesus.
