Constant Refuge

Refuge, Covering, Protection –

I found this quote that says, “True refuge is that which allows us to be at home, at peace, to discover true happiness.”

God is our constant refuge.

Psalm 36:5-7 says, “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.”

We read here that we are in the shadow of God’s wings. In the avian family, a mother bird will tuck her little ones under her wings in the midst of the storm. She stands there and takes on all the wind and rain to protect her children.

God does this with us. In the storms of life, He hides us under His wings and protects us from the unseen. He is our safe place.

David often talks about God rescuing him and keeping him safe. David also makes it clear that God hides us in the day of trouble. Psalm 27:5 says, “For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.”

For those of us who know and follow the Lord Jesus, His spirit lives within us, and He is with us, and we are always with Him. God is our rock, our shelter, and our strong tower of refuge.

I imagine a lighthouse, where the main part is a strong tower, and above the harsh waves is the lookout. God sees above the storm and keeps us safe as He is our place of refuge.

Psalm 62:5-8 says, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.”

The words rock and refuge bring comfort and hope to us. We know that we will be safe and make it through.

We can rest in the Lord and know that He will never leave us.
