Chosen Instrument of God

We’re going to talk about the inspiring idea of being a chosen instrument of God. Each of us is created with a purpose, and God calls us to fulfill roles unique to us. So today, we’ll explore how we can embrace our God-given purpose and let Him use us for His glory.

God has given all of us talents, experiences, and stories for His purpose. So, we are going to discuss what it means to use those and how He doesn’t just call us to believe—He calls us to act, to love, and to serve others as part of His plan.

Acts 9:15 says, “But the Lord said, ‘Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel.’” This verse highlights how God can choose anyone—even those who feel unworthy or unlikely—to be His instrument.

We can sometimes be unsure of what we are to do for the Lord but what I can tell you is that wherever you are, God has called you there and in that for a reason. And though it may seem like we shouldn’t think this is where we are called in the moment because wherever we are and whatever you are doing might not be where you think you should be but we need to embrace the truth that it is all part of His plan and we need to let His light shine through you right where you are.

1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

God sees each of us as part of His royal family, with unique roles and callings. He has chosen us to be examples of His goodness to the world. Reading through the Bible we can see that God choses all types of people no matter where they are in their walks. You don’t have to be perfect to be used by God. He calls us, flaws and all, because He has a purpose for each of us.

Being a chosen instrument often means letting go of old habits or fears. This can take time but with God it is something that can and will happen. Let’s look at Saul, who later became Paul, he was transformed from a persecutor of Christians to one of the most devoted followers of Christ. His transformation was God’s work, just as ours is. God molds and shapes us to reflect Him.

Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

If you’re facing change, remember that God is shaping you for His purpose. The process can seem like you are losing a lot or uncomfortable or even impossible at times, but we are to still embrace the process, knowing that God is preparing you for great things. Let His will guide you, even if it looks different from what you imagined and boy it can look different which is why so often people are called out of all they have known into something new. God has a plan, just obey.

1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”

God equips each of us with unique gifts to make an impact. Whether it’s kindness, teaching, hospitality, or compassion, every gift has a purpose. When we use these gifts, we’re not just helping others; we’re allowing God to work through us.

Often times I have felt that I needed to be involved with something but unsure of my role, so I’ve just waited for opportunity and for God to prompt me. Once I was in it, I came to learn more about myself because there was something that I was equipped with that I didn’t know about. God will make a way and equip you.

If you’re unsure of your gifts, ask God to show you. Pray for opportunities to use your gifts to bless others. When the door opens walk through it because no act of service is too small when done in God’s name and being a chosen instrument of God: accepting His calling, embracing transformation, and using our gifts to serve others. God has a purpose for each of us, and we can trust Him to guide us as we answer that call.

Let’s end with Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” God sees us as His masterpieces, designed to fulfill His plans.

Go out with confidence, knowing that God has chosen you for a unique purpose. Embrace your calling and let Him use you in ways you might never expect. You are His instrument, designed to make a difference.
