Catch the Spark

Catch the Spark: Living with Enthusiasm

Whether you’re someone who bounds out of bed ready to take on the world, or you need three cups of coffee and a pep talk just to get your shoes on — this one's for you. Let’s talk about how we can live with joy and passion, even when the day feels ordinary. Ready to catch the spark?

Romans 12:11 (NLT) – “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”

We’re starting by looking at what enthusiasm really is. It’s not just hype — it’s a heart posture. It’s living like you mean it. Even if your to-do list isn’t glamorous, your attitude can be!

Not every day is filled with big moments, but enthusiasm isn’t about circumstances — it’s about your approach. Whether you're folding laundry, leading a meeting, or driving a carpool, a little excitement makes everything better.

Here at our local Walmart, the greeter is enthusiastic. He welcomes everyone with a booming, “Hi! Welcome to Walmart!” Every time he’s there, my kids notice — and they’re so happy to hear him welcome them. That’s the power of bringing energy into even the smallest roles.

Sometimes we let the wrong things steal our enthusiasm — comparison, burnout, or just plain boredom. I’d say burnout is the biggest culprit. We stay so busy, and then suddenly, we’re overwhelmed and just can’t take it anymore.

Let’s call out those things that are stealing our spark — and take it back!

What drains your energy? And what fills you up again? Identifying those things can make a huge difference.

Let’s make some changes.

One enthusiastic person can light up an entire room. Whether it’s at church, work, or your kitchen table — your attitude spreads. Be the one who brings the sunshine!

Try starting your next conversation with a little extra positivity. Watch what happens!

Romans 12:11 reminds us to serve the Lord enthusiastically. When we remember why we do what we do, our energy shifts. Purpose breathes life into routine.

Enthusiasm isn’t about personality — it’s about perspective.

Which I’m thankful for, because I wouldn’t say I have an enthusiastic personality. But my enthusiasm does come out when I’m speaking about God and what He’s done. I want others to catch the fire of the Lord!

Let’s keep the energy going. We’re diving into how enthusiasm shows up in relationships, work, and especially in our faith. It’s not about being loud — it’s about being all-in.

Faith can be fiery! Not fake or forced, but genuinely excited about what God is doing. When’s the last time you talked about your faith with excitement?

Think of a time God showed up in your life. Talk about it today with someone — not like a report, but like good news!

Enthusiasm isn’t just for projects — it’s for people. A little effort in how we greet, respond, and invest in others can revive even the dullest relationships.

Try answering “How are you?” with something fun or uplifting. Not backhanded or sarcastic — just straight-up joy. Watch how it shifts the conversation!

Your job may not be your dream, but you can still bring dream-worthy energy. You’re not just doing tasks — you’re representing Christ in how you do them.

Start your day by praying over your schedule. Ask God to give you joy for the job — even if it’s just for today.

Romans 12:11 (NLT) – “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”

If your spark’s been dim lately, that’s okay. Life wears us down sometimes. But God doesn’t run out of energy — and He shares it freely. Ask Him to rekindle your joy.

What’s one fun, energizing thing you can do today just for the joy of it?

Some of us naturally wake up like Eeyore. Others bounce around like Tigger. I’m somewhere in between. I’m a morning person, but I’m not bouncing off the walls.

Both are lovable characters — but which one reflects the joy of the Lord better? Not that we fake it, but we can choose where we focus.

I say no matter where you're coming from, just be authentically you — and display the character of Christ.

Whether you’re parenting or influencing others, enthusiasm is something that’s caught, not just taught. Model it. Celebrate small wins. Dance in the kitchen.

Have you ever seen in a movie where everyone around the dinner table starts a gratitude shout-out? Each person shares one exciting or happy moment from the day — even if it’s just “I found matching socks!”

It might seem cheesy, but maybe it’s worth trying. It could spark some enthusiasm and shift your perspective.

Enthusiasm can come straight from the Holy Spirit. Ask Him for that divine energy — especially when you’re running low. He gives it freely, and you’ll be amazed how your mood shifts.

You don’t have to fake a good attitude — just invite God into your mood.

Life is better when we show up with heart. Even if the coffee’s cold and the to-do list is long — choose to show up with joy. You never know who you’ll inspire just by your spark.

Be the thermostat, not the thermometer. Set the tone — don’t just reflect it.

As you go about your days, remember: enthusiasm is more than excitement — it’s about showing up with heart. Let’s live like we mean it. Whether you’re flipping pancakes, answering emails, or just trying to keep the dog from chewing the couch again — do it with joy. Do it with purpose. Do it for the Lord.
