Bible Study

Sometimes we get so set in our routine that we just start making our Bible study time a box to check off. But really, this time is more about connection.
Like you, I still want to study more and can feel stuck, intimidated, and maybe inconsistent where I’m at in my studies.
So don’t feel alone in that.
The most important thing to remember is that God meets us in Scripture right where we are — not where we think we should be.
The first time I decided to read through the Bible, I was following this plan, but I found it daunting because it became too much at once, so I struggled through it. That excitement I had changed into a burden because I was falling behind.
That’s the thing… we set expectations on ourselves, and then when we fall behind, we feel like we are failing. But honestly, if you open your Bible and get a few Scriptures during your reading time, then I say you are doing great, and God is going to give you what you need out of that.
Scripture time is meant to be a simple time with the Lord. Don’t expect anything more than just reading and hearing from Him.
There are many Scriptures that remind us that the Word of God is good and that we should read and follow it. One of those Scriptures we’ve heard is Hebrews 4:12, which says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Just keep in mind that Bible study time is not about speed or volume, but about spending time with God and listening for Him.
Have you ever tried to have Bible and quiet time just for everything around you to distract you?
Me too.
Some days I have no problem getting into the Word and connecting, and then other days I struggle to focus and quiet my own mind. With that, everything from kids to noises to pets pulls me away from my time. There have also been many times when I’ve read a chapter or two and walked away knowing I didn’t retain a single thing.
But when you do connect — when everything clicks — there is joy, peace, clarity, and encouragement that comes out of that.
Let those moments be what keep you going and diving into the Word.
God’s Word is an invitation for us to learn who He is, who we are in Him, and how we can live a life for Him. It is history and instruction.
Sometimes we just need the reminder that God speaks to each of us through His Word, and we need to be open to that.
I’ve seen so many people use Bible journaling books where they notate, draw, and do all the things, and I always think how cool that is — but I’m not that person.
Everyone has their own way of studying, whether it’s with a plan, one verse at a time, group studies, or journaling. I don’t think there’s a wrong way to spend time in the Word and with God — consistency is what matters.
God’s Word is powerful because it always applies to our situations, helping shape our perspective and giving wisdom and peace over time.
Every moment with God adds up and helps build our faith and hope.
Don’t be discouraged if you feel behind or like you’ve dropped the ball completely. Just start where you are right now and ask God to give you the desire to spend time with Him.
Bible study can seem daunting because it is a lifelong journey. The Bible is a collection of books that we will read and study over and over again.
Approach Scripture with curiosity and let God use His Word to fill in the answers for you.
Let’s take a moment to pray this morning.
Lord, give us understanding as we read Your Word. So many times we start with good intentions and then fall off. Help us grow in consistency and in our willingness to hear Your voice every day. Soften our hearts and shape our minds to receive all You have for us. As we read Your Word, help us see how alive and meaningful it is for our everyday lives. Thank You for Your guidance. Amen.
The Bible is the only book where you don’t have to start at the beginning — isn’t that amazing? You can start anywhere. But I think that’s also what makes it hard sometimes… we don’t always know where to read.
I know I’ve jumped around, and while that can feel confusing, you can still get something out of it. The Bible is fascinating that way.
Just remember this: if you don’t know where to begin, God honors willingness over perfection — so just read. Scripture is meant to strengthen us, not confuse us or make us feel like we’ve failed. Just start somewhere.
I used to think I needed to memorize the Bible to truly know it, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s about reading it, applying it, and learning who God is. Throughout Scripture, one thing we learn again and again is how steady God is.
What has helped you stay connected to God’s Word, and have you been able to share that with someone and see it help them as well?
