Today let’s talk about what it means to be intentional with our time and our lives. It’s easy to get pulled in different directions without stopping to consider the why behind our actions. But being intentional means making deliberate choices that align with our faith and values, living each day with purpose rather than just going through the motions.
Proverbs 4:26 says, 'Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.' It’s a reminder that we have the ability to choose our path and make decisions that honor God. Today, we’ll explore what it means to be intentional with our time, our relationships, and our faith. Let’s discover how living purposefully can bring greater peace, joy, and fulfillment.
One of the most important areas where we can be intentional—our time. Time is one of our most valuable resources, yet it can slip away so quickly if we’re not purposeful with it. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” This verse encourages us to make the most of our time and be wise in how we spend it.
Being intentional with our time means prioritizing the things that truly matter—our relationship with God, time with loved ones, and activities that uplift us. It might mean setting aside time for prayer, learning to say no to distractions, or choosing activities that align with our values.
Last weekend I made a point not to get on social media and I really noticed how much time I spend scrolling and just using time to zone out. There is nothing wrong with taking time to rest, I mean I am all for it but taking that time off social media just showed me that sitting on my device is probably not the best use of time.
Is there one area where you could cut back and dedicate more time to what truly matters? Maybe it’s cutting down on screen time or setting aside time for family dinner. Small adjustments can make a big difference!
The second area where we can be intentional is in our relationships. Relationships are at the core of who we are, and God designed us for community. But in order to have deep, meaningful relationships, we have to invest in them. Colossians 3:12-13 says, “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Intentionality in relationships means showing up, practicing empathy, and building trust.
Whether it’s with family, friends, or colleagues, being intentional means being present and prioritizing quality time. It might mean calling a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, setting boundaries, or even forgiving someone. When we’re purposeful in how we treat others, it honors God and strengthens our bonds.
Is there a relationship in your life that could benefit from more intentional effort? Think about one way you can show love, kindness, or support to someone today. Maybe it’s a quick text of encouragement or setting up time to catch up.
The last area we’ll cover today is being intentional in our faith. Our relationship with God is foundational, yet it’s easy to let it slip if we’re not proactive. James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” This verse reminds us that drawing near to God requires intention on our part. Being intentional in our faith means creating daily habits that draw us closer to Him.
This could look like setting aside time for prayer, reading scripture, or simply reflecting on God’s presence in our lives. Even small, consistent actions can deepen our relationship with God. Intentionality in faith is also about trusting Him in every area of our lives and seeking His guidance when making decisions.
Today, try setting aside a specific time to spend with God, whether it’s morning prayer, a verse at lunch, or journaling at night. Intentional moments of connection with God help us stay grounded and grow in our faith, even in the midst of a busy schedule.
Each area of our lives requires focus, effort, and, sometimes, sacrifice. But the rewards of living intentionally are peace, purpose, and a closer walk with God. Let’s make it a goal to pause, reflect, and make choices that reflect who we are in Christ.
Let’s remember that being intentional is about choosing to live purposefully in every area of our lives. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” When we make choices that align with God’s will, He honors those steps and brings blessings into our lives.
Being intentional doesn’t mean having everything figured out; it’s about making each day count, one step at a time.
