Be A Witness

You don’t need to know all the answers, preach sermons, or post daily devotionals on social media. You just need to live in a way that points people to Jesus. It’s about showing up, being kind, forgiving when it’s hard, and loving like He loves. Let’s dive in and talk about how we can be everyday witnesses to God’s goodness — just by being who we are in Him.

Our scripture for today is Acts 1:8 (NLT) –“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere…”

Being a witness doesn’t start with what you say. It starts with how you live. Sometimes the loudest gospel we preach is how we treat the cashier when the line’s long, or how we speak about others when they’re not around.

You don’t need a stage — you need the grocery store. Or the pickup line at school. Or your workplace breakroom. That’s where your witness starts — in those small, consistent moments where you choose grace over frustration.

You’ve got a testimony — even if it doesn’t involve fireworks. My testimony is actually pretty low key, and though it may not be flashy, it is still impactful because God made a change in my life.

Maybe your witness is the peace you found after heartbreak, or how God showed up in the middle of your mess. People don’t always need a Bible verse — sometimes they just need your story.

It’s easy to talk the talk — but the real witness is when we live it out: choosing kindness over gossip, generosity over convenience, integrity over shortcuts.

What’s one thing God has brought you through that you could share with someone else? And what’s one small action today that could be a witness to someone watching?

Being a witness doesn’t mean everything’s perfect. I’m not sure why this is something we can often get stuck on — because when reading the Bible, we read all the mistakes made by the ones God chose to do His work. If anything, that should reassure us. We just need to come and be willing to be a witness for the Lord.

In fact, how you walk through hard things can be your biggest witness. Choosing faith when things are falling apart speaks louder than any sermon.

You don’t have to have it all together. Let people see God working in your “still-in-progress” places.

Let’s talk about how our relationships are one of the biggest places we show our faith. Whether it’s our kids, our coworkers, or the barista who gets our complicated coffee order — our interactions say something. What are they saying?

Have you ever been on the receiving end of unexpected kindness? It sticks with you. Kindness can turn a whole day around — and it opens the door for people to see Jesus through you.

Smile, hold the door, say someone’s name — these are small ways to reflect a big God.

Sometimes the hardest place to be a witness is at home.

Our families see the real us. The tired us. The impatient us. But they also see the grace, growth, and love of God at work in us. Start there.

I used to snap when I was stressed, overwhelmed, or even if there was a slight change. But God got my attention in that and helped me work through the why of those things. Now, I try to pause and pray. I still stumble, but I keep in mind that all that I do is a part of my witness to my family.

Let’s talk social media. What are you posting? What are you liking, commenting on, or sharing? Our digital footprint is part of our witness. Let’s use it wisely — not to argue, but to encourage.

You can post the truth without losing your grace.

Let’s also talk about how there are people in our lives who make loving them… a challenge. And yet, this is exactly where we shine as Christ-followers. Choosing love when it’s not easy? That’s witnessing in real time.

You don’t have to agree with someone to show them love.

This is good advice for face-to-face and social media: not everything needs to be shared or said.

Now let’s get into the long game of being a witness. Being a witness isn’t a one-time thing. It’s the way we live, day in and day out. It’s the legacy we leave and the light we carry.

Think of your life like a trial. Everywhere you go, you’re leaving behind something. Is it peace? Encouragement? Faith? Or frustration and judgment? Let’s be people who leave behind light.

What do you want people to remember after spending time with you?

Here’s something we can all walk with confidence in — none of us are perfect witnesses.

We were just having a conversation with one of our kids about how we try to do our best and follow God’s lead, but we fail. Thankfully, God uses the willing, not the perfect. You don’t need a polished story or a perfect past. Just a heart that’s open to love like Jesus.

When the time comes to share, remember that you’re already equipped to be a witness — because you have the Holy Spirit living in you.

Being a witness isn’t about flashy moments. It’s about showing up consistently with love, patience, and faith. Over time, people notice. You don’t need to stand out — just stand firm.

Be steady. Let people know what they can expect from you: grace, love, truth.

At the end of the day, we’re not just representing ourselves — we’re pointing people to something (and Someone) greater. Let your life say, “Look what God can do.”

Pray this — “Lord, let my life be a reflection of Your goodness, not my perfection.”

When you are someone who consistently shows Christ through your daily life, others will notice. And you may have an opportunity to share how God has worked through you and be a witness to His grace and mercy.

Remember: Being a witness isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present, being loving, and being real. Whether it’s through kindness, your story, your patience, or even your quiet strength in a hard moment — you are showing people Jesus.

So go out today and shine brightly. You never know who’s watching, and who might just meet Him because of you.
