Awake My Soul!

Let’s shake off the sleep, stretch those arms, and wake up more than just our bodies—let’s wake up our souls. You ever feel like your spirit hit the snooze button? Like you’re going through the motions, but your heart’s still under the covers?

Well, today we’re waking up what’s been sleeping—your joy, your purpose, and your hope.

Psalm 57:8 (NLT): “Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song.”

We’re starting with something most of us know too well—the snooze button! And it’s easy to hit spiritually, too. Life gets heavy, routines get boring, and without realizing it, our passion gets dull. But today, we’re pushing back and saying: Wake up, soul!

You know that “blah” feeling that sneaks up on you? You’re doing all the right things—work, church, dishes—but your heart’s not in it. That’s a snoozing soul. You’re functioning, but not thriving. Let’s talk about those signs and why they matter.

Those signs of feeling stuck or just going through the motions are important because they can become habits. That’s when we really need to be intentional about staying in the Word and in prayer. Even when we feel like we’re not doing much, God can still speak—no matter our state of mind.

We all know what wakes up the body—coffee, a cold shower, kids, pets, or a workout. But what wakes up the soul? Things like worship, laughter, stillness, and purpose. Let’s talk about the things that breathe life back into our spirits.

Worship tunes our hearts to God and reminds us He’s with us. Laughter brings joy into the everyday. Stillness gives us rest and insight. And purpose helps us keep moving forward. When we center our focus on God, these things keep us walking His path.

Have you ever felt numb—even in your faith? In those moments, turn on some worship music, pray, and seek the Lord. Those little things can spark something new.

You don’t have to make dramatic changes to wake up your soul. Sometimes it’s just a walk with God in the morning, a chat with a friend, or laughing with your kids that lights the spark.

What could you do today to stir something fresh?

Now let's get into reigniting joy and purpose. Life wears us down, but today we’re flipping the script. We’re choosing joy, choosing movement, and choosing to reawaken what we were made for.

Even on the most average day, your life is not small. God has designed you with purpose—even if today feels ordinary. Our souls wake up when we remember we’re part of something bigger.

Ever had a moment where you just tried to “fake it till you make it”? Like, smile for everyone else but feel empty inside?

oy isn’t just the sprinkles on top—it’s fuel for the soul. And it doesn’t always look like dancing in the kitchen. Sometimes, it’s peace in the chaos, laughter in the stress, or hope when everything feels heavy.

One listener sent a message saying she listens to KJIC on her morning walks—and during a tough season, that’s when she remembered God’s faithfulness. It didn’t fix everything, but it helped her breathe again. Sometimes, all you need is a little light to wake you up.

If you’re waiting to feel awake before you act, you might be waiting a long time. We can’t go off feelings alone—we need to follow in obedience. Show up anyway. Worship when you don’t feel like it. Move forward even when you feel stuck. Sometimes, it starts with a walk or turning on a song that shifts your heart. Take that step and begin.

Psalm 57:8 (NLT): “Wake up, my heart! Wake up, O lyre and harp! I will wake the dawn with my song.”

Now that we’ve stirred our souls a bit, how do we stay awake, especially when life gets hard again? That’s what this hour is all about—staying connected, grounded, and alive in the Lord.

A lamp only shines when it’s plugged in. Our souls are the same. If your light’s flickering, check the connection. Are you making time with God a daily rhythm or just an occasional recharge?

Psalm 57:8 says, “I will wake the dawn with my song.” That’s not just about volume—it’s about living a life of praise, letting your life be the song that shakes off the dark. Starting your morning with gratitude can set your whole day on the right track.

Have you ever been woken up for no reason, but you're just wide awake? That happened to me this past Sunday—I woke up at 5:45, took care of laundry, had coffee, and listened to my Bible. Later, at church, our pastor preached from the exact chapter I had just heard. Okay, Lord—you have my attention.

Just like our bodies wake up daily, our souls need daily attention, too. Don’t coast. Don’t stay numb. Choose to be present, grateful, and joyful—even if it takes effort. Your soul was made to live fully alive.

God wants to meet with you. He wants to talk with you, walk with you, and awaken every part of you to His love and purpose.

So here’s what I want to leave you with: Your soul is worth waking up. Don’t let life lull you into autopilot. There’s beauty, purpose, and joy waiting for you today—right where you are.

So stretch, smile, and wake the dawn with your song.
