Assurance In Jesus

Updated: Nov 22, 2023

Assurance is freedom from doubt; a sense of certainty that something is true, will occur, or that all is okay.

We all need assurance and we seek this in people, in relationships, in our jobs, in financial situations, spiritually, and really in any situation that come up.

I have had moments where I felt less than confident about certain things and needed or wanted the assurance that all would be ok. Sometimes so much that I would try to make it happen on my own. That blew up in my face. Why?

When we think we can take on certain things we can be so very wrong and the only way to make it through is to trust in God.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know that plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

God right here is giving us the assurance that He knows and because He knows we should be fully confident in Him and be ok with that…. but we are human and hard to convince sometimes.

So, we seek, and we seek. We should just seek God and learn to trust. I think that the lack of trust that we can have causes us to question.

God is our provider in all things and we need to trust and be assured that He has all things in His hands.

In John 11 Lazarus (Brother of Mary and Martha) dies…. Jesus is away and these sisters send for Him knowing that He can heal Lazarus from where He is. But He doesn’t. Instead, Jesus stays where He is for a bit longer and then decides to go see them. At this point Lazarus has died and has been in the tomb for 4 days.

Once Jesus was near Martha heard Jesus was coming and ran to Him and told Him He was late.

Jesus knew better.

Mary, who didn't go to Jesus when Martha did, finally came to Him and questioned Jesus about His timing.

Again, Jesus knew that all would be ok.

Jesus then went to the tomb of Lazarus and raised him from the dead.

Though these sisters were in turmoil at the loss of their brother, Jesus knew the outcome before Lazarus had even passed. He knew all was ok, but they didn't.

The Lord knows in any circumstance that in one way or another all will be ok.

When we are seeking assurance we need to keep in mind and remember to go to the one that tells us He knows our path and has a plan.

In Proverbs 3:5-6 it says – Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do and he will show you which path to take.

Our assurance in the Lord should never fail but if we are questioning things we can lose track and we really need to remember that the Lord knows.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

All things work for God’s good. No matter what your current season is God can use it. You may feel there is no way out, but you can turn to God, talk with Him, and let Him help you figure it all out. Once you feel confident in the Lord’s ability and know that without a doubt all will be ok you will feel a weight lifted as He is now fully carrying that burden for you and will see you through.
