April Fool's Day

Today is April Fools’ Day — a day full of pranks, laughter, and good-natured fun. Whether you’re the prankster or the one getting pranked, it’s all about spreading a little joy. We’ll dive into some hilarious stories, share a few tricks, and remind ourselves why a cheerful heart really is good medicine. Let’s get the fun rolling!

Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) - "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength."

So, who’s already fallen for a prank this morning? April Fools’ Day is one of those quirky traditions that reminds us not to take life too seriously. Let’s share some laughs!

When my dad was younger, they used to put money on the end of a rope and place it in the middle of the street. When someone was driving, they would see the money, get out of their car to pick it up, and my dad would pull the string from where he was hiding, watching the person chase after it. Things like this are so dumb, but they make us laugh.

Spreading joy is fun and so easy to do. Let’s make someone smile today by leaving some joy through encouragement.

When my kids were younger, they would pull what they thought were pranks, and they were funny because they were so bad.

One simple and gullible prank my husband played on my kids was waking them up one morning by telling them it had snowed… it hadn’t, but they all jumped out of bed, ready to see it. They were very happy that he did that just to get them out of bed. They actually still talk about this.

What’s the best prank you’ve ever pulled — or had pulled on you? I bet there are some legendary stories out there.

Have you ever thought about the fact that some people just don’t see you fully?

This week, I was being pretty laid back and a little sarcastic, and someone said, “Oh, I’ve never seen this side of you.” We all have different versions of ourselves, and not everyone will see every version. One way to break through some of those barriers is through laughter.

Laughter is such a gift. Even if you’re not into pranks, since today is April Fools’, take a moment to smile and spread a little joy in any way that comes to mind.

Today is a day that brings joy, some through encouragement and some through pranks. I’m not into pranks myself, though I have done a few over the years, and every time I was joyous… for me at least.

There’s something about shared laughter that really brings people together. Some of my favorite memories are filled with belly laughs and a little playful mischief or sarcasm.

Some of the best pranks are when the person you tricked starts laughing with you. The key is to keep it light and fun — no mean-spirited stuff!

Have you seen where people buy these little Jesus figures, which come in a bag of like 1,000, and they place them all over someone’s house? They will be finding these little figures for years because some of the places where they are hidden are very discreet.

How about people putting googly eyes on boxes at a grocery store? These things make us laugh and bring us some joy in our everyday moments.

I remember one time in college, a few friends and I filled those little paper cups with water and put them in the office of one of our professors. He couldn’t walk into his office at all. Can you just imagine his reaction when he got to his office that morning? Lol, classic.

Laughter is good medicine, and our scripture for today tells us that. It’s Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) - "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength."

Isn’t it amazing how laughter connects us?

We hear stories and say, “Oh my gosh, me too.” This brings us together, and when it’s a funny story that we can relate to, that connection is deeper because we aren’t the only ones who have done something so ridiculous.

How about when something goes wrong? Those are funny stories because the mistake is so unbelievable that we can’t help but laugh, and neither can everyone around us.

Connection with others will always be important.

The best part about April Fools’? The creativity! From whoopee cushions to faking something, people go all out.

My kids are always trying to scare me, and it is rare that they are able to, but when they do, it brings the biggest smile to their faces because they feel accomplished and joyous all at the same time.

In all the laughter, there’s a reminder that joy is a gift. A cheerful heart really is good medicine, and today is a perfect excuse to spread a little happiness.

Let’s remember our scripture for today, which is from Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) - "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength."

Whether you’re pulling pranks or just enjoying the fun, let today be a reminder to not take life too seriously. Laugh a little, love a lot, and remember that a cheerful heart is a true blessing.

I hope you find a reason to laugh and spread a little joy. April Fools’ Day is a fun reminder that life doesn’t always have to be so serious. So go ahead — share a smile, pull a (kind) prank, and enjoy the gift of laughter.
