Community Radio, Inc. owns and operates KJIC 90.5 FM Houston and KQLC 90.7 FM Sealy. Community Radio, Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization. We have served the community since 1978.
We offer music that speaks to the hearts of men, women and children. It’s music with a simple yet powerful message: A message that points to Jesus and all He has provided, and to our celebration of life in Him.
Our mission is to comfort, encourage, and bring spiritual strength to the "Church" God's people and be a light to the lost.
We first came on the air in 1981 in Pasadena, Texas on 89.3 FM at 118 watts, playing Contemporary Christian Music. We later changed formats to include Southern Gospel as KSBJ came on the air at 88.1 FM. Soon we were only playing Southern Gospel Music. Around 1983, plans developed that would double the reach of KSBJ and KJIC if the two stations swapped frequencies. Once this took place, both stations were able to grow in size and coverage. KJIC grew from 118 watts to 440 watts and began broadcasting on 88.1 FM.
In the early 90's we built 90.5 FM at 5,000 watts and moved our studio in Brazoria County. We still continued to broadcast on 88.1 FM. In 2003 we sold 88.1 FM to a Spanish ministry and built a new tower next to our studio in Alvin, TX. In 2003 we increased to 7,700 watts and again in 2009 to 36,000 watts.
2018 was another big change for KJIC. We changed our format from Southern Gospel to Christian Country. This was a difficult decision, but one that soon proved to be a great success. Our music is a mixed of main stream country artist that sing about faith, family and God with traditional southern gospel artist that crossed into country. We call ourselves Christian Country Radio and we are the only radio station in Houston with this format!
In 2021 we purchased 90.7 FM in Sealy, TX. We simulcast 90.5 FM on 90.7 FM. We are in the process of increasing the coverage of 90.7 FM. We also have a goal of broadcasting other formats on our HD channels or by way of internet streaming.
Community Radio, Inc. is a ministry extending beyond just music. We minister to our listeners via print with a quarterly devotional and a monthly newsletter. We also distribute bible studies and a devotional to inmates across Texas and beyond. We also partner with other ministries and local municipalities to help support the community. We are always looking for ways to share Christian Country Radio with everyone.
