Flashlights On

“The Word of God is quick and powerful. In the beginning He spoke to nothing, and it became something. Chaos heard it and became order, darkness heard it and became light.”― A.W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God

Over the course of my life, I have held a flashlight or two…you know to light the path, to help someone see more clearly, so on and so forth…. And I’m going to guess we have all done that.

We have all lit up a path or helped someone see more clearly. When someone is working on something and need the light to shine in an spot to see more clearly and we move and that light is not shining then we adjust to get it back to where it needs to be.

Psalm 119:105 says, Your word is a lamp for my feet, and light on my path.

If you can’t see where you are going or need help seeing, get that flashlight out, turn it on, adjust it and let it guide you. We are to go to God’s word and let it help us in that way as well. We have the Lord as our light in the darkness and He will show us clearly what path to take we just need to go to Him.

Did you know that lightening bugs are actually beetles? I had no clue. These little bugs fly around in the dark and light it up. They don’t worry about what they cannot see they depend on the light provided to them to show them.

Matthew 5:16 says, Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Just like God is the light, you are a light. We as Christians bring light to the darkness of this world. We bring hope to those who are seeking it.

I have felt lost in the dark before due to life just casting a shadow over me. It is lonely when you feel that way. It took me a minute to realize what I was seeking with the light of the Lord. Thankfully we have a God who is with us at all times we just need to remember that He is there.

In John 12:46 it says, I have come as a light to shine in the dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

I didn’t see myself as not following Jesus, but I wasn’t turning to Him in the hard times, I was just surviving and doing my best to make it through. But to realize I wasn’t turning to God the way I should and seeking him in the ways I needed to was a game changer. Jesus is our main source of light. When we go to Him, we will no longer feel like we are in the dark, or at least not alone in the dark. God will shine the light and guide us through.

To be the light of the world is a big job especially when seeing these little bugs light up and see just flashes and they aren’t that bright. Luckily God has that job and uses us to help.
