We're created in God's image and that includes a sense of humor

At some point in time we've all used the old saying "Laughter is the best medicine". That phrase is actually derived from the bible.
Proverbs 17:22 "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
It should come as no surprise then, that along with all the other attributes pertaining to God, a sense of humor is one of the characteristics included in the blueprint for mankind.
Even in biblical times, laughter has been used as a coping mechanism.
Proverbs 14:13 "Even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief"
And there's humor in the bible as well. This passage from 2 Chronicles reads almost as a modern reflection and commentary on the passing of someone who wasn't very well liked (and won't be missed).
2 Chronicles 21:20 "Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. He passed away, to no one’s regret, and was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings."
And humor, apparently, has always required the appropriate venue and audience; that the jokester should know how to read the room...
Ephesians 5:4 "Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving"
And if you think I'm only kidding... The modern equivalent of "Psyche!"...
Proverbs 26:19 "Is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “I am only joking!”
And humor and laughter help fight depression and anxiety (science backs this up, too)

Lastly, having sense of humor is a lifelong endeavor.
Comedian Rodney Dangerfield's epitaph fittingly reads: "There goes the neighborhood"
Even in the end, he never got any respect.
Similarly, iconic TV game-show producer Merv Griffin's reads: "I will not be back after these messages."
A sense of humor has been around as long as we have. And as long as we have problems, we'll need it.
