The 12 Apostles were relatable...they were just like us

From a secular standpoint, the bible would almost seem closed off and for much of what's described in it, unattainable. But after one actually reads the Word of God, we start to see that so many of the principle, key people (the 12 Apostles, etc) were just like we are, from varied backgrounds, skilled trades and temperaments (tax collectors, fishermen...). It becomes evident that they were chosen for many of the same reasons that we're called to be in Jesus' ministry. That's one of the inspirations that led me to want to read more of the bible. They (and of course, Jesus too) were approachable and relatable. They were were even referred to as friends by Him.

John 15:15 "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

So, the next time we doubt whether we can do what God has asked of us, remember the Apostles were just as we are: human.
