Sleep, it's more important than you think.

We live in an on-the-go, tech driven society that doesn't place enough emphasis on sleep. In fact, recent studies even suggest that we lose up to an hour and a half of much needed sleep to our phones and social media. The constant electronic distractions take away quality time we could devote to prayer and other important areas of our lives. Ironically, lack of rest can lead to increased anxiety, prolonging health ailments, all of which ultimately affect what we pray for and about.
Psalm 127:2 "It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep."
Even Jesus recognized the importance of rest...
Mark 6:31 "And he said to them, 'Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat.'"
Ironically, we're bombarded with countless ads for mattresses, furniture and sleep wear. Now, if we could only find time to use them...
Yet in the same block of TV commercials and social media ads, we're being sold sleep aids because we're staying up far too late with too many distractions vying for our collective attention and down-time.
If we can ask our Heavenly Father for all of these other things in life that we need, it won't hurt to ask Him to provide us the ability and time to rest more.
If we're able to schedule Zoom meetings and endless appointments and responsibilities, we owe it to ourselves to pencil in more time to sleep. God can help with that too.
