Hearing God's voice
Updated: May 23

When I was growing up, a radio friend of my dad's was a young priest who had been in the seminary for a only a short time. I asked my parents what had inspired (Father Malcolm) to pursue the priesthood. My mom had explained to me that he had been "called" to it. In my seven or eight year old mind, I envisioned the Vatican or the Pope calling him up and asking him to join the clergy. In some ways, I wasn't too far off. God does call His flock (us) and He directs our ways. His voice is unmistakable.
John 10:27 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."
I've experienced this over the years in when I was saved or when, for example, looking for a new church.
In this busy, app driven, online day and age, God's voice can be obscured by all of the outside noise we're subjected to. We have to listen with discernment though.
1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world."
As believers, if we listen carefully, we will hear the undeniable voice that can only be from our Heavenly Father. And His voice will stand out above everyone else's.
